All NYC subway stations now have WiFi and cellular service

As part of a $300 million, 7-year partnership between the MTA and Transit Wireless, commuters can now make calls from all of New York City’s Subway stations. Work began on the project in 2011 and is being completed a year ahead of schedule [The Verge]

 

Amazon to open its first NYC bookstore

Amazon plans to open its first bookstore in New York City at the Time Warner Center. This announcement comes as the company’s latest push to open brick-and-mortar bookstores, following retail locations in Seattle, San Diego and Portland, Oregon. The New York City project will reportedly not be completed until next year. [Crain’s New York]

 

Trello sold for $425 million

This week, productivity startup Trello was bought by Australian software developer Atlassian Corp. for $425 million. Trello reportedly sold just 22 percent of its shares to investors, meaning its founders, Michael Pryor and Joel Spolsky, won big on the transaction with their majority stake in the company. Fast-growing Philadelphia marketing startup moving HQ to Manhattan

This week, marketing startups Monetate, announced it’s moving its headquarters to New York City. The move is a strategic change to bring the company closer to a higher concentration of current and potential clients, including fashion and retail companies, as well as martech companies.
