Job Description:

The Real Simple commerce team is seeking an Associate Commerce Editor to edit, write, assign, and update evergreen shopping roundups and gift guides. The ideal candidate is a digitally savvy editor or writer who is equally passionate about the home and lifestyle space and creating engaging editorial content.

As Real Simple’s Associate Commerce Editor, you will be responsible for commerce content strategy and execution, including assigning and editing new commerce content, publishing new content in our CMS, and updating existing commerce content. This job requires both analytical and editorial skills to help you provide readers with trusted recommendations tailored to their budgets and needs. This role reports to the Editorial Director on the Real Simple commerce team.

  • Assign, edit, and publish new evergreen commerce content, using internal testing data, marketplace knowledge and research, and SEO analysis to back your editorial approach.

  • Update existing commerce content based on performance data and insights as well as updated product information and testing insights.

  • Manage a team of 2-4 freelance writers, sourcing and onboarding high-quality new writers as needed.

  • Assist in our testing process, whether evaluating products at home, analyzing testing results, attending lab testing days, or gathering insights from testers or community members.

  • Participate in editorial meetings and pitch ideas for new content.

  • Stay current on trends and new products.

  • Communicate effectively throughout the organization on goals and objectives.

About You

  • 1-3 years of experience working in the editorial commerce space, ideally focused on home or lifestyle categories.

  • Strong editor and writer capable of writing engaging shopping content, all the while keeping the Real Simple voice, values, style, and audience in mind.

  • A product enthusiast who spends time shopping and obsessing over purchases, particularly useful, clever products that help make readers’ lives easier.

  • Proven aptitude for communicating and collaborating with editorial team members.

  • Experience with SEO best practices and content management systems.

  • Organized, efficient, and a self-starter who wants to work for a growing company.

  • Bachelor's degree required.

An Insider's view of Dotdash Meredith

What projects are you most excited about?

Atomic design is in our DNA at Dotdash. We're striving to have the dev and design teams work closer together and use a single source of truth for how components are pieced together using predefined molecules and atoms. This is exciting and innovative work that is helping us scale at an incredible rate and deliver on our promise of fastest sites!

How do you empower your team to be more creative?

We do quite a few things to encourage creativity like hackathons, design sprints, and "Unconferences". That said, I think the most meaningful thing we do is to encourage teams to be autonomous. Having control and ownership over their respective applications gives our team members the freedom to explore ideas to solve their own problems.
