The Associate Social Media Editor should be the first person to know what videos are trending on Facebook and YouTube. He/she/they should know how to optimize a YouTube channel, grow an audience, and get viewers excited about the content. The Associate Social Media Editor will be managing our video library and orchestrating video distribution across several Facebook pages. They will need to be incredibly organized, attuned to our audience’s preferences, and always armed with new ideas to get our videos in front of the people who want to see them.

The Associate Social Media Editor will assist in the execution and implementation of video content on Thrillist platforms, and work closely with the Thrillist Editorial and Video teams to continue developing a strong, growing presence across multiple social media platforms. 

Responsibilities:

  • Coordinate the video publishing schedule with the Thrillist Video team and strategize distribution of video content
  • Manage Thrillist’s YouTube channel: Upload videos, optimize for search, coordinate with our YouTube team, and work with partners to push for YouTube subscriptions
  • Manage Thrillist’s Video Facebook page -- schedule content, organize partner shares, run boosts through Facebook Business Manager, and keep track of analytics and top-performing videos
  • Pitch partners on Thrillist videos, and schedule partner videos in return
  • Collaborate with editorial and video teams to dissect videos and continually improve the quality of Thrillist content on social media
  • Interact with users, answering any questions and engaging in discussion when appropriate
  • Track trending news and internet moments and find creative ways for Thrillist to be a part of the conversation
  • Keep up with relevant social media news, updates, tools, platforms, and best practices
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Communications or Journalism preferred
  • At least 1-2 years experience managing video and social media for a digital media publisher
  • Thorough knowledge of YouTube and Facebook analytics
  • Knowledge of YouTube growth strategy for digital publishers
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Basic knowledge of Google Analytics, Chartbeat, CrowdTangle, Facebook, and YouTube Insights.
  • High attention-to-detail and extremely organized
  • Knowledge of latest trends on how to use Facebook and YouTube as a content distributor
  • Comfortable in a fast-paced, entrepreneurial and high-energy environment; comfortable collaborating with the social media team and video and editorial teams
  • Enthusiastic and goal-driven with the ability to proactively follow-up and follow-through on all projects
  • Advanced ability to use the perfect GIF in all Slack conversations

Preferred Qualifications:

  • An appreciation for puns, as well as a keen sense of when you’ve overpun’d it
  • Understanding of Facebook audience behavior, engagement strategies, what makes people share things on Facebook, and what makes people feel an affinity to a publisher on social media
  • A hunger to learn more about the ever-changing landscape of social media
  • Experience writing/self-editing punchy, grammatically correct, highly engaging statuses, tweets, captions, etc
  • YouTube Certification a huge plus
