Common is hiring a talented Project Coordinator to manage the construction process of our new homes in close coordination with our developer partners. From upholding Common’s interests in time and quality on our new homes under construction, to procuring and managing our directly sourced vendors, this role will be responsible for delivering on our quickly expanding pipeline.
About Common
Common brings home to life by creating, designing and operating all-inclusive shared homes for those who live life in common. We combine community, convenience, and flexibility to make living with others a joy instead of a chore. Headquartered in New York, Common was founded by General Assembly co-founder Brad Hargreaves in early 2015.

Common partners with real estate owners and developers throughout the US to create community-minded homes. By doing this, we’re addressing the fundamental supply and demand issues that underlie housing in major cities today. Common opened its doors to its first building in Brooklyn in October 2015.

About the Role
We are looking for a Project Coordinator to oversee the construction process of our new homes.
This is a fantastic opportunity for an ambitious candidate to grow their construction management experience across multiple projects. The role will provide exposure to various sizes of construction projects, from small and medium refurbishments, to large scale, ground up developments in varied national locations.

Common’s partners are typically responsible for the majority of the general construction of our Homes. As Project Coordinator at Common, it will be your job to ensure our partners have a strong understanding of our Brand Standards. You will manage the general construction process so that projects run smoothly, on time, to budget, and achieve Common’s quality expectations. In addition, you will be responsible for managing our client side vendors (low voltage, access control, security), minor construction works, real estate partner handovers and lead up for the opening of the Home. You should be excellent at working in the detail but also confident and able to communicate overall progress at a higher level.

This is an exciting position for a Project Coordinator who is keen to grow in a client side role with close mentoring and support. The ideal candidate enjoys the fast paced, multi-disciplined nature of construction project management.

As the Project Coordinator, you will report directly to the Director of Construction. You will be working on multiple projects at a time, and will enjoy the fast paced nature of a position at a start-up. You should have a real love for creating quality spaces, and be passionate about our mission to create wonderful spaces where people live better together, than they could apart. Success in this role will see you grow into a Project Manager, responsible for managing large projects, subcontractors and Developer Partner relationships autonomously.
Requirements:
  • 2+ years Construction Project Management Experience either as a client or General Contractor
  • Experience within the Residential, Hospitality or Retail sectors is preferred
  • A basic understanding of construction procurement, invoice processing and financial reporting
  • Demonstrate experience managing trade works for the full life cycle of tendering, procurement & payment, and on site coordination
  • A keen love of organization and prioritization
  • Tech savvy
  • Skills in Adobe design products. Should be able to produce quick drawings to communicate scopes of works to GCs
  • Detail oriented
  • Entrepreneurial mindset
  • You should be happy moving at a fast pace, and challenging how anything could be done better
  • You are an excellent communicator and comfortable in situations ranging from on site subcontractor discussions to formal client meetings
  • You see solutions quickly and are able to produce work on short timelines.
  • You know how to ask for help when you need it.
