BuzzFeed is looking for a smart, detail-oriented person to serve as a Senior Manager of Accounting, Video. Reporting directly to the Corporate Controller, this person will require strong leadership skills to manage the day-to-day operations of a four-person production accounting team.


This is an ideal position for an individual who has gained strong experience in a previous accounting role and seeks to apply those skills to a fast-growing company. Experience at Big Four accounting firm is a very big plus. The ideal candidate must be comfortable in a dynamic start-up environment, will bring energy and passion to everything he/she does, and will not be afraid to roll up his/her sleeves to tackle challenging assignments.


This job is full-time, based in LA. We offer competitive compensation and equity.


Responsibilities:



  • Accounting, budgeting, and scheduling for the Company’s entertainment group (mostly focused on video production)

  • Manage the day-to-day costs of the production, including expenditures, accounts payable, petty cash, and payroll

  • Develop process for capturing journal entries including balance sheet classification, contingent liability assessment, asset impairment testing, and expense accruals

  • Identify, investigate and resolve irregular items and prepare adjusting journal entries as required

  • Responsible for completing monthly close accounting close calendar to ensure all work is correct and on time

  • Ensure completeness and accuracy of GL activity; review and analyze trial balance to determine if adjustments are necessary

  • Provide strategic and analytical support for video production revenue plans and budgets; provide analytical support regarding profitability and business implications of specific video campaigns

  • Assist with Sarbanes-Oxley cycle documentation and audit testing

  • Work with internal and external auditors as needed

  • Complete ad-hoc projects and analysis as determined by internal management

  • Serve as on-site accounting resource to production team while reporting to Corporate office in NY


Requirements:



  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance required

  • CPA or MBA preferred

  • 8+ years of experience working in accounting or a related financial area

  • Must be proficient in Windows, Excel, and Word.

  • Experience with NetSuite preferred

  • Experience with various production accounting software including Ease Accounting, Movie Magic, EP Payroll, Cashet Purchase Card
