BuzzFeed is looking for a Director of Brand Design who will be responsible for developing compelling design solutions based on BuzzFeed’s strategic goals. Reporting into the SVP of Marketing, this role will head up the Brand Design team and be responsible for overseeing all of our brand executions from concept to final outcome, with a surface area that includes brand logos, environmental graphics, marketing collateral and event activations.

The successful candidate will have strong art direction experience, as well as the technical chops to back up their opinions and provide guidance and mentorship to the team. He or she will have strong leadership and people skills to motivate and empower staff while collaborating with various stakeholders across the organization. He or she will have a sophisticated aesthetic but will also have the flexibility to move quickly and thrive at one of the most innovative companies in the world.

 

The Job

In conjunction with the SVP of Marketing this role will oversee our core BuzzFeed brand and sub-brands like Tasty, Nifty and Goodful. This person will lead up a small team of designers to create logos, style guides, environmental installations, activations, events, and marketing materials across all of BuzzFeed.

As a member of the Marketing Leadership Team, this role will collaborate with other leads to build an amazing team comprised of full time talent, and supplemented by contract freelance designers, illustrators, video editors and motion designers as needed. This role will be responsible for growing the Brand Design team and will have a major focus on developing and growing our talent.

 

What you’ve got

  • A sophisticated aesthetic and eye for typography, illustration and photography.
  • A portfolio that shows smart bold work across brand identity, marketing collateral, illustration and motion.
  • A network of designers, illustrators, motion designers who you can tap as needed.
  • An understanding of timelines and how to manage projects
  • Strong leadership and management capability with a proven track record of building and developing teams
    • The ability to conceptualize and create designs that are compelling and impactful.

 

  • A positive attitude, a strong work ethic and a focus to see your projects through start to finish.

 

  • Strong communication skills and the ability to build internal equity with stakeholders
  • A background of 7+ years in brand experience (ideally at a tech or media company, print and/or online).
  • Minimum of 3+ years of managing a team/project managing
  • Proficiency with Adobe Creative Suite.
