Mic is a diverse news and media company for young people. Our mission is to inform, inspire, and empower our generation to make change happen. Each month, more than 65 million young people rely on Mic to make sense of the world.

The Identities team is looking for a editorial intern who is passionate about race, gender, religion, sexuality and the fight for social justice. You know what’s happening with the Black Lives Matter movement, the feminist movement, the civil rights of the LGBTQ community — and know that the intersection of these issues is so important. You care about how marginalized groups are being affected in Trump’s America. You also keep tabs on pop culture and are on the hunt for the next big viral meme, video or hashtag. You’re also — of course — a voracious reader of Mic and our identities coverage.

This is a paid full-time summer internship based in New York City. We expect interns to work 40 hours a week for the duration of the program (June 5, 2017 - August 11, 2017). Interns are responsible for arranging their own housing and transportation.

Responsibilities:

• Pitching story ideas with clear, specific angles daily
• Writing articles that help readers — through explanation, advice, or both
• Assisting other writers with reporting tasks, including reaching out to sources, gathering and/or analyzing data, and transcribing
• Assisting with social media programming for The Movement Instagram and Facebook pages

Qualifications:

• Writing experience
• Must be enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate program
