Mic is a diverse news and media company for young people. Our mission is to inform, inspire, and empower our generation to make change happen. Each month, more than 65 million young people rely on Mic to make sense of the world.

The Mic trending news desk produces anywhere from 30-40 stories a day, ranging from issues of climate change to feminist issues to world news to politics to viral memes. The news desk intern will provide support to reporters through research and some writing tasks. The intern will report to Mic’s Senior Editor, News.

This is a paid full-time summer internship based in New York City. We expect interns to work 40 hours a week for the duration of the program (June 5, 2017 - August 11, 2017). Interns are responsible for arranging their own housing and transportation.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Provides support to the news team through story research
  • Pitch and write short posts or listicles on trending news items (1-2 per day)

Qualifications:

  • Generalist’s grasp on the news, from politics to pop culture to style to arts
  • Proven ability to write quickly under pressure
  • Ability to identify what makes a Mic story
  • Keen eye for identifying trending stories before they go viral
  • Must be enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate program
