Over the past seven years, thousands of filmmakers have come to Kickstarter to bring their projects to life. Their works have garnered ten Oscar nominations (and one Academy Award win!), premiered at countless film festivals, and shown on thousands of screens. For the past five years, more than 10% of the films premiering at the Sundance Film Festival raised funds on Kickstarter. And this is just the start: creators are making films, videos, web series, and whole new forms of visual storytelling. We’re looking for a passionate, knowledgeable film lover to help us spread the word about the next chapter and be instrumental in shaping the future of film.
Our full-time Head of Film will develop, lead, and execute Kickstarter’s strategic vision for our film category. The position falls under our Communities team, whose mission is to sustain, build, and deepen our relationships with creative communities around the globe.
Who are you? You have/are:- 10-15 years experience in the film world, with at least 5 years in a leadership position
- Experience translating strategic visions into scalable, executable plansProven experience in community building, partnerships, or building long-term sustainability for an organization
- An established public profile providing commentary and opinion on the film world, including speaking engagements from panels and roundtables to keynotes
- Deeply embedded in the film world and have longstanding relationships with people in all corners of the industry
- A keen understanding of and varied perspective on the film landscape, from independent and major studios to viewers and fans
- A genuine passion for the opportunity Kickstarter represents for filmmakers, whether emerging or established
- Bonus points for creative projects of your own and/or demonstrated commitment to working with mission-driven organizations
- Chart the course for Film on Kickstarter, strategically and practically
- Inspire filmmakers at every stage of their career to share their work with the world via Kickstarter
- Be accountable for the health and growth of the film community on Kickstarter, and of Kickstarter within the broader film world
- Cement Kickstarter’s voice and brand within the film industry and ensure we’re an active and relevant participant in that conversation
- Be a public representative for Kickstarter within the established film world — as a thought leader, author, panelist, etc.
