BuzzFeed News is looking for an ambitious, enthusiastic, and organized editor to lead a team of writers focused on health.
The ideal candidate has experience writing and editing service journalism that is body-positive, sex-positive, useful, personal, rigorous, hilarious, and shareable. We produce mostly evergreen content (posts, videos, newsletters, packages) about nutrition, exercise, anatomy, drugs, germs, mental health, reproductive health, and sex for an enormous, loyal audience.
Some of our biggest viral successes over the past year, for example, have included: the unicorn Frappuccino's actual nutrition content; an accessible 30-day fitness challenge; a first-person account of an abortion at 23 weeks; eye-opening stories of how people really masturbate; practical weight-loss advice without nonsense cleanses or detoxes; health advice gynecologists really want you to know; relatable moments for anyone with depression; and hundreds of sex tips you'll wish you heard sooner.

This position will be based at the BuzzFeed offices in New York City. We offer competitive compensation and a stock option program.
Responsibilities:
- Oversee the editorial and publishing strategy for BuzzFeed Health, top editing and publishing 10-15 posts per week.
- Manage a team of writers, editors, and video producers.
- Utilize social insights and traffic analytics to constantly improve upon the publishing strategy. When something isn't working, you investigate and change course.
- Provide feedback to BuzzFeed News writers across departments and in our bureaus around the world, teaching best practices in health and science reporting.
- Collaborate with the video team to develop and grow the BuzzFeed Health video strategy.
- Work with the sales team on brand partnership opportunities.
- Have your finger on the pulse of the health and wellness space. You're constantly clued in to the latest health research, trends, and controversies; you're an endless source of ideas for your team.
- Write viral and/or service-oriented health articles as needed.
Requirements:
- At least 4 years of experience writing or editing health content for a journalistic outlet
- At least 2 years of management experience, ideally in an editing position
- A body-positive, science-backed approach to covering health
- A critical, skeptical eye for hype / baloney
- Love for and excitement about the internet
