BuzzFeed News is hiring a national Political Reporter to cover the Republican Party in the Trump era.
This reporter must have experience breaking political news and working on deeply reported stories. He or she should have ideas about how the Republican Party is changing, or not, under the new president.
BuzzFeed News political coverage helped define the last two presidential election cycles, through aggressive reporting and uniquely ambitious features and profiles. Our goal each day is to produce excellent political news that is well-reported, accurate, sharp, and substantial — from lots of scoops to features underpinned by emotional intelligence about where their subjects stand in the world.
This reporter should have big ambitions for breaking news on their beat and telling big stories, and be excited by the prospect of working within a large, growing newsroom with high-caliber reporters and significant resources.
This position is based in our New York or Washington, D.C., offices (though for the right candidate, our Chicago or Minneapolis locations could be options). He or she will report to our political editor, who is based in New York.
Responsibilities:
- Break news about Republicans, conservatives, and at times, the White House
- Deliver deeply reported, timely, incisive political coverage
- Develop a specific beat or beats within the broader mission
- Occasionally work with other reporters on our team and across the news division
Requirements:
- Proven ability to break news, develop sources, and deliver quality beat coverage
- Experience reporting on politics
- Willingness to travel and work extremely hard at sometimes unusual hours
- Sense of humor
- Emotional intelligence
