Reporting to the Senior Director of Insights Engineering, LearnVest is seeking a Database Administrator to help architect, implement, administer, and support a heterogeneous database environment. You will work on a team of data analyst and data engineers to build our enterprise data environment.

This role involves high attention to detail, a creative mindset and a team player. Strong experience working cross-functionally between departments, the ability to juggle many hats and communicate to technical professionals and business stakeholders is key to the success of this role.

Requirements 

  • AWS experience, the more tools the better (data pipeline, S3, Kinesis, and any other tool)
  • Relational Database Admin experience (Redshift, MySQL/PostgreSQL, Oracle)
  • Hadoop experience (with relevant tools like Kafka, Spark, Hive etc.) - preferably open source implementation and not a store bought tool, but any is better than none
  • Python/Scala experience within a data environment
  • NoSql experience (Admin/developer) with Mongodb
  • Some bi tools experience - Tableau for example, experience creating reports etc.
  • Monitoring/Ops experience - Log slicing tools (like Splunk), and any real world experience from the trenches

Preferred

  • Experience working in smaller environments as well as large enterprise environments
  • Hands-on experience with Columnar
  • Working within financial services, insurance, banking, or relative field.
  • Keen eye for keeping up to date with new market trends and technologies
  • BS/BA Degree in Math, Computer Science, or related field.
  • Excellent communication skills both written and verbal.
  • A positive, fun go-getter who can take work seriously but knows how to joke around while getting things done
