MakeSpace is a Manhattan-based tech startup that is disrupting the public storage industry. We are changing the way people think about their belongings and saving them from ever having to visit a storage unit again. Our company has a fun and lively office located in Manhattan's Financial District. We are the future of stuff and our well-funded startup is looking to hire an experienced front-end engineer to drive consumer and internal web applications.

In 2015, Fast Company listed us among the top 10 most innovative consumer electronics companies in the world for being “the Dropbox of physical stuff”. Needless to say, with our combined product and engineering team of 15 people, we are going well beyond building “YACA” (yet another CRUD app) to take on the $27B storage industry. We are just getting started.

Where you come in:

• Write, test, document and deploy code that ensures the integrity of our operations and unique user experience.
• Mentor and inspire the other engineers working on web front-end technologies.
• Build performant and maintainable user interfaces from scratch.
• Write code that will perform efficiently and accurately in an asynchronous architecture.
• Work on internal web tools that are crucial to our Operations Team.
• Collaborate with our world-class design & engineering teams to create the best UX we can offer.
• Work with our designers to ensure technical feasibility of the UI/UX.
• Our stack includes: a BackboneJS application with a Python/Django/MySQL backend maintained with Docker/Ansible.

About you:

• You have 3+ years professional software engineering experience, at least some of that in a mentoring position for more junior engineers.
• You are looking for a team, not a job, where your sense of humor and love of collaboration will be at home.
• You aspire to use technology and positively transform the physical world.
• You have a history of shipping web applications that are cross-browser compatible.
• You like writing semantic, modular front end code using HTML5, CSS3.
• Javascript, and ES6, is a language you understand so well you could teach it.
• Your past work demonstrates good taste and a keen eye for pixel-perfect design.
• Your resume or portfolio illustrate experience building and maintaining a web test suite.
• You do not need to be sold on the exciting opportunities for MakeSpace as a service.
• You are willing to learn, teach and step outside of your comfort zone.
• You have experience with javascript frameworks (BackboneJS and/or ReactJS a plus).
• You're familiar with build tools like gulp or webpack.
