Senior Lifestyle Writer

New York, NY

BuzzFeed is looking for an experienced, internet-and-social-media-savvy senior writer who loves and understands the lifestyle space. This is a full-time job based in New York City.

Responsibilities:

• Write posts about lifestyle in the BuzzFeed style and tone.
• Come up with smart ideas lifestyle posts with effective, clever headlines aimed at sharing.
• Grow, diversify, and innovate the team’s presence on Facebook, Pinterest, Instagram, and other social media channels.
• Establish and maintain relationships with lifestyle experts and freelance writers to bring fresh perspectives and ideas to the section.
• Obsessively track viral trends and stories on Facebook, Pinterest, Instagram, and Tumblr and create content around those trends.
• Ability to turn around original projects, feature articles, and tentpole projects quickly and accurately. 

Requirements:

• Three to six years of website, magazine, or blogging/vlogging experience (or similar experience) covering lifestyle.
• An expert in one of the following areas: home, wellness, personal finance, and/or everyday living (aka how to live your best life).
• Proven understanding of the kinds of lifestyle content that generate engagement on social media platforms and the ability to articulate those qualities.
• Self-starter and hard worker with tons of ideas.
• Obsession with and deep knowledge of all things lifestyle.
• A commitment to representing all types of people and families, and to breaking out of the traditional lifestyle media mold/stereotypes.
• Flexibility, an open mind, and enthusiasm about experimenting with unconventional ideas.
• A sense of humor.
• Experience writing trending and viral news stories a big plus.
• Experience with or background in video production or editing a big plus.
