As Thrillist's definitive voice on the social web, the Senior Social Media Editor oversees a team of four that handles all of our social media accounts (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Pinterest, and whatever’s next) and works closely with editors and writers to connect our work to eyeballs everywhere. 

You will be responsible for setting the strategy for growing reach and engagement across all available social platforms and work closely with the Associate Director of Audience Development to manage the stream of communication between our editors and audience, while using your uniquely lovable words to engage our followers every moment of every day.

You will coach video producers and writers in social best practices and methods so that their posts have the widest reach possible. You’ll love mountains of sweet, sweet data, and what said data can tell you about what a readership wants. You will be focused on KPI of growing reach and engagement and you will make everyone love us.

Responsibilities:

  • Hands-on, real-time management of multiple social platforms at once, either directly or through strategic planning with your social media team
  • Continually improve our best practices to improve the feedback loop with our video team with a clear focus on driving video view growth month over month
  • Oversee our day to day strategy around social amplification
  • Oversee routine headline and image testing on our social channels to provide an effective feedback loop to our editors on what works best for our audiences
  • Use platform and site analytics to help determine what an audience is thirsty for
  • When deadlines happen, especially when they happen often, you hit those deadlines
  • Be the point person for social media best practices and share these with the larger editorial team
  • Know how to expand legitimate interactions with readers and followers that keep them coming back for more
  • Grow our social followings in a major way, and give those followers exactly what they want to read and watch, every day
  • Identify platform-specific best practices for how to best engage and grow audience
  • Establish the ideal mix of native vs. curated vs. site-driving content for each individual social platform

Qualifications:

  • At least 5 years of social media experience in digital/editorial publishing
  • Real-world experience building an engaged audience on Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest, Instagram and other social networks on a massive scale
  • Ability to constantly juggle multiple priorities
  • Have at least 2 years of management experience
  • Possess a deep understanding of native content on a platform by platform basis
  • Strong analytics experience using Google Analytics, Facebook Insights, ChartBeat, CrowdTangle, and other analytics tools
  • Deep understanding of audience behavior, engagement strategies, what makes people share things on various social media platforms
