About our Engineering Team:

Our engineering team works on product-oriented problems across the boundaries of e-commerce, mobile, analytics and shipping/fulfillment. The backbone of our business is our custom logistics management system, which gives us the crucial ability to deliver the right product to the right user at the right time - a simple goal with a complex solution. We use data, engineering and algorithms to create a personalized website and an adaptive supply chain to fulfill our commitment to an amazing customer experience.

About the DevOps Team:

The DevOps team at Rent the Runway supports developers and production systems horizontally across the organization. Our team comprises both systems and software engineers working up the stack from the network to the application layer. We implement the tools used for provisioning, building, and deploying the systems and applications that power the eCommerce and logistics components of Rent the Runway. We’re also responsible for the tools used for logging, monitoring, and alerting for application and business level events.

About this role:

As the technical lead of the DevOps team, you’ll provide technical guidance for the team that keeps everything running & get to work with engineers and product managers from all parts of the business. You’ll gain a broad understanding of what makes Rent the Runway unique and interesting. Your management skill and potential shine here, but you’ll still be able to be hands-on in driving our roadmap forward as we scale our infrastructure.

You should know how to:

• Embrace a variety of technologies and dig deep into problems
• Communicate with both technical and non-technical team members 
• Appreciate the broad impact of infrastructure on our business
• Work with both bare metal environments and cloud architecture
• SSH into a box 
• (one of these things is not like the others)

You’ll be able to:

• Work closely with the engineering team to design, build, document, and support systems and infrastructure
• Architect or explore a transition into future cloud architecture solutions
• Manage and mentor a senior engineering team
• Lead our team into one of the highest-growth times in our business
• Communicate with engineers and product managers to gather requirements and resolve production issues

You should have:

• Several years of relevant experience managing and working with systems at scale
• Network architecture knowledge, especially with regard to complexity at scale & how to handle automation in a cloud environment
• Demonstrable knowledge of TCP/IP, HTTP, and Internet application architecture
• Hands-on experience with switches, routers, & firewalls
• Experience with vendor management & cost optimization

...and know your way around these tools:

• Experience with a scripting language (e.g. Ruby, Python, Perl, or Bash)
• Experience with configuration management & automation tools. We use Puppet & Ansible, but Chef experience is welcome.
• Familiarity with application deployment utilities (e.g. also using Ansible, or Capistrano)
• Familiarity with virtualization and cloud platforms (e.g. VMware, Openstack, AWS, Rackspace, etc)
• Linux systems administration and server configuration experience (CentOS preferred; Ubuntu/Debian, etc.)
• Understanding of continuous integration and deployment tools (e.g. Jenkins, TravisCI, CircleCI, Rundeck, etc.)
• Experience in web application development and common frameworks (e.g. Dropwizard, Spring, Rails etc.)
• Familiarity with log aggregation and monitoring systems (e.g. Splunk, Nagios, Icinga, Monit, New Relic, etc.)
