LearnVest is redefining the American approach to personal finance. Our planners leverage financial technology to create simple, affordable, realistic plans for anyone who wants to feel confident about their money and optimistic about the future.

Since launching in 2010, LearnVest has been one of the premier financial technology companies in the country, helping thousands of people make progress on their financial goals. LearnVest was acquired by Northwestern Mutual in 2015 and is now scaling its technology and personal finance approach to help millions of people across both the LearnVest and Northwestern Mutual brands.

About the role:

LearnVest, a Northwestern Mutual company, is looking for a VP of Investments and Wealth Management to join our NYC based digital product team. We are on a mission to help Northwestern Mutual re-imagine it’s go to market strategy for financial planning and investment advice and it all starts with the innovative platform and software that our 7,000+ advisors use everyday.

The role requires an obsession with personal finance and investing. Data will power your vision, roadmaps and stories. You’ll oversee product managers across NYC and MKE, building new microservice apps with cross-app platform capability and you will also work to make new or existing vended solutions a seamless part of the platform.

Our Product Managers run “pizza pie” teams of 4-6 engineers and are paired with visual design, UX design and copywriting to make beautiful products. We might be building for advisors and professionals but we aim for consumer level usability and simplicity.

What You’ll Do:

  • Drive a strategic product vision for the digital apps needed to run our Investment & Wealth Management business, in partnership with the VP of Investment Strategy
  • Manage a team of Product Managers (and Senior Product Managers)
  • Drive cross functional collaboration across interdependent product teams, enterprise stakeholders, and financial advisors to build thoughtful roadmaps
  • Teach and answer questions on the vision for the software
  • Make data-driven decisions based on research from actual users
  • Use metrics to track product-use after a launch
  • Stay up to date on industry trends and product management best practices

What You Have:

  • 10+ years of product management experience building custom apps with engineers and designers
  • Agile product development experience but the flexibility to handle detailed PRDs for vendors when needed
  • Bachelor's Degree required, Computer Science degree strongly preferred
  • Industry chops - you have worked on Wall Street, in FinTech or at a Robo Advisor and you know the ins and outs of the regulatory environments and key enterprise solutions (e.g. Pershing, Envestnet, Morningstar, SEI, Albridge, etc).
  • Product intuition - strong instincts about what makes great product, simple is better
  • Technical chops - don’t need to code, but should be able to gauge what technologies work best for the job, what’s easy or difficult to implement, degree in Computer Science or a related field is required. Tech experience on web applications required. HTML, JavaScript, databases, UI frameworks. Technical experience using tools like JIRA to manage engineering scrum backlog helpful.
  • Financial planning software experience - if you’ve used other software or happen to even be a CFP it’s a plus
  • Data driven - You know how to leverage data to make good decisions when confronted by ambiguity. You may not have all the answers upfront but you know how to find them
  • Story Telling. You’re good at presenting to large groups, convincing people to run towards goals, and managing multiple stakeholders - even when they don’t report to you.
  • Curiosity. We value learning and exploring. Many of our Product Managers were former Advisors and some of our classic Product Managers have become CFP’s and learned formal financial planning. You should enjoy moving fast and learning lots of new things!

Benefits:

  • Fully stocked snacks, beer fridge, cold brew kegs, frequent catered lunches, company dodgeball team, and whiskey hours.
  • Tuition reimbursement, commuter plans, and paid time off.
  • Highly competitive compensation that include base salary plus bonus.
  • Medical/Dental/Vision plans, Matching 401(k), pension program.
