Content & Community Manager

| Greater NYC Area
At Skillshare, we’re working to build an engaged community of curious, lifelong learners. As a Community Manager, you’ll work to foster high-quality interactions amongst students and teachers, while growing brand loyalty and member satisfaction.
You’ll be on the front lines: designing experiences for our members and bringing them to life through content production, curation and community moderation. With a deep understanding of our users’ needs, you’ll deliver insights to the Product team and collaborate on new and innovative ways of increasing community engagement.

What you'll do:

  • Design and moderate online workshops to foster learning and engagement
  • Review and curate classes and projects to highlight Skillshare’s best content
  • Plan and facilitate contests, challenges, and other online & offline events to motivate our members and build community
  • Keep a pulse on community feedback and deliver insights and recommendations to make learning on Skillshare more engaging

Why we're excited about you:

  • You’re an excellent communicator and can adopt Skillshare’s brand voice to effectively craft content and communicate with our members at scale.
  • You’re super organized, able to manage multiple projects and work cross-functionally with operational excellence.
  • You’re equally excited by strategy, project management, and execution.
  • You love coming up with new ideas and then also getting hands-on and figuring out if they work.
  • You have an eye for great content and are comfortable making editorial judgements in line with Skillshare’s brand principles.
  • You’re familiar with the creative community, or are able to quickly immerse yourself in the field.
  • Startup and/or previous community management experience are bonuses, but not required.

Why you're excited about us:

  • Impact: Community is at Skillshare’s core, and your work will play an important role in driving user engagement and retention.
  • Growth: Our team is small, so you’ll have room to wear a lot of hats and take on more responsibility over time.
  • Our mission: We are building a learning ecosystem for the new economy and changing millions of lives for the better.
  • Our team: We have a passionate, smart team that is a lot of fun to work with.
  • Your life: We take pride in our flexibility. Working remotely is part of how we need to work these days. You’re a professional, and we trust you to do what you need to do.

About Skillshare:
Skillshare is an online learning community whose mission is to connect curious, lifelong learners everywhere – and, in so doing, build a more creative, more generous, and more prosperous world. Today, our community has grown to over 5 million members who come to Skillshare to learn creative and entrepreneurial skills, network with peers, and even teach a class themselves. We are backed by Union Square Ventures, Spark Capital, Amasia, Spero Ventures, and Burda Principal Investments.
Skillshare is committed to building a diverse team that reflects a variety of backgrounds, perspectives, and skills. We work to ensure a consistent interview process, fair compensation, and inclusive work environment for all.

An Insider's view of Skillshare

What’s the vibe like in the office?

We balance being both focused and flexible in our office. In this kind of fluid environment, we can seamlessly ease in and out of individual heads-down time to group sessions; from meditation to collaboration; from desk to the lounge. The vibe lends us the freedom to play to our strengths and value our differences in working styles.

Jenni

Senior Product Designer

How do you collaborate with other teams in the company?

Cross-team collaboration is frequent and organic at Skillshare; we foster a uniquely friendly atmosphere of openness and shared purpose. Through cross-team threads, project-based meetings, comments on RFC's, pull request reviews, Q&A sessions, and, of course, simple conversations, collaboration commonly happens across a table or across time zones.

Justin

Engineering Manager

How has your career grown since starting at the company?

Skillshare has supported my career growth and trajectory tremendously. I started here 3 years ago on the Community team, but after discovering a passion for coding, Skillshare provided me with a mentor and on the job time to learn. It's been two years since I switched careers, and I'm so grateful that I get to come in and keep learning every day.

Callan

Software Engineer

How do you make yourself accessible to the rest of the team?

As a management team, we strongly believe in making ourselves accessible. This includes: 1:1s with direct reports, skip-level meetings, team-wide meetings, coffees with people across departments, and attending team events. More broadly, we apply the same foundational rule we all learned in kindergarten: treat people the way you want to be treated.

Sabrina

VP, Operations

What kinds of technical challenges do you and your team face?

We're in an exciting position - we have a product that we believe in and a community that believes in us. The question we face is: how can we build a platform which works for the Skillshare of today, but will scale to the needs of the Skillshare of the future? It’s not enough to keep up with growth; we must build for where our growth will take us.

Samantha

Director of Engineering
