Codecademy has helped over 45 million people learn to code. Join one of the most exciting technology companies in New York as we change the way people learn.

Millennials are highly-educated, tech-literate, and mission-driven. Yet seven years after the great recession ended, nearly half of young university grads are underemployed, meaning they aren’t working jobs that require a degree. And the situation has only recently begun to improve. This year US students will graduate with $37,000 in debt, only to accept unpaid internships and part-time jobs.

Meanwhile, software is eating the world, disrupting first media, publishing, and entertainment, and now food, transportation, and travel, creating millions of new technology jobs that companies are eager to fill. By 2020 there will be a shortage of 1 million more tech jobs than computer science grads.

We can be the bridge. We can help this generation gain the skill to fill these jobs and enjoy happier, more fulfilling careers. Join us.

The Codecademy Fellowship is a summer residency for undergraduate minorities in tech to devote time immersed in technology education and curriculum production at Codecademy in New York City.

Codecademy recognizes that diversity of thought and background is essential, especially when building curricula that will affect millions of learners on the platform. We have a dedication to providing educational material of the highest quality in the tech sphere, and that is impossible to do without having a team that is diverse and representative of the world population as a whole. Without having this representation, we risk missing out on understanding and crafting for our own learners worldwide.

We are always trying to do this better. So, we are rolling out an initiative to bring college students from underrepresented minority groups to join the Curriculum team for the summer. This initiative is aimed to empower these interns to become leaders, creators, and influencers.

The internship will run for 8-12 weeks in the window from early June to late August and offers competitive compensation.

Each intern will own at least one course from design to implementation to deployment, and be responsible for a final presentation to all-staff at the end, demoing the course or courses they have created.

Who You'll Be Working With:

The Curriculum team at Codecademy is responsible for creating the lessons, projects, quizzes, and articles that empower learners around the world to dive into new technologies. This content gives people the skills they need to find jobs in a world where tech is embedded into every industry.

Members of the Curriculum team are responsible for, among other things, planning and structuring lessons and learning concepts, writing narratives, reviewing other team members’ content, and writing tests to assess learner input. Additionally, Curriculum members take an active role in the marketing, product, design and engineering decisions made by the rest of the team.

What you’ll do:

  • Learn how to design a course and how to write educational material
  • Write unit tests
  • Work in a dynamic AGILE team environment
  • Present and communicate work to other members of the Curriculum team and the Codecademy team at large
  • Have the opportunity to become a mentor/advisor on the Codecademy platform and help with learners when they get stuck
  • Own, plan, write and deploy your own course that will be available to millions of learners worldwide

What you’ll need:

  • Working towards a degree in Computer Science or a field related to education
  • Freshmen, sophomores, juniors, and seniors (or equivalent experience) welcome to apply
  • A real passion for education and for making STEM competency more accessible
  • Phenomenal interpersonal skills, both oral and written
  • A familiarity with the Codecademy platform -- take a course or two!

What will make you stand out:

  • Experience in creating online educational material. Do you run a tech blog? Make informational videos? Send us some links!
  • Experience in instructing in a classroom

At Codecademy, we are committed to teaching people the skills they need to upgrade their careers. Codecademy aims to educate a richly diverse demographic of users with our product and in order to accomplish this, we believe our team should reflect that rich diversity. Our company celebrates diversity in all of its forms-- race, gender, color, national origin, marital status, sexuality, religion, veteran status, age, ability, disability status-- and works to create an inclusive workplace where people of all backgrounds and beliefs are empowered to better their futures.
