BuzzFeed & HuffPost

BuzzFeed is the world's leading independent digital media and tech company, with a cross-platform news and entertainment network that reaches hundreds of millions of people globally and spreads Joy and Truth across the internet.

Our portfolio of brands are household names that people rely on to inform and entertain, including: BuzzFeed, BuzzFeed News, Tasty, Nifty, Bring Me, Cocoa Butter, Pero Like, Worth It, and Unsolved, to name a few. These properties and their Creators reach over 134M people a month through articles, lists, videos, animations, quizzes, podcasts, original series, newsletters and more.

On Nov. 19, 2020, BuzzFeed announced that it was acquiring HuffPost. HuffPost is a premium destination for award-winning journalism, and was the first fully digital U.S. publication to win the Pulitzer prize — a testament to editorial excellence. With this acquisition, BuzzFeed's scale, engagement and cultural impact will be unrivaled. BuzzFeed News and HuffPost will operate as separate, distinct news organizations.

The Role

HuffPost seeks a visionary Editor in Chief to lead its US news operation. You will lead one of the world's most recognized and powerful digital news organizations, soon to be part of BuzzFeed's media holdings.

We are looking for a leader with a clear command of journalism, especially on the social web; a demonstrated knowledge of and commitment to covering issues of race and multiculturalism; and a deep understanding of politics — inside the beltway, on the streets, and in power centers such as Silicon Valley, Hollywood, and Wall Street. With the razor-thin, bitterly fought election behind us, progressive politics has never been more in flux — and never in need of sharper news coverage and robust debate. The new EIC will come with a vision to make HuffPost even more influential and indispensable by fostering journalism with real-world impact, ideas and conversations that break through and challenge the way people think, and coverage that expands HuffPost's already vast audience. The EIC will have the chops to implement that vision.

Our new editor-in-chief needs to lead and inspire the entire newsroom, which includes not only reporters and editors, but copy editors, designers, and experts in social platforms. As the EIC, you will make a lot of tough calls — tough journalism calls, but also tough business and management calls, which means you will have experience managing a newsroom or large news team. You need to act decisively, but with humanity and wisdom. You will need to collaborate closely with different teams to help HuffPost integrate with BuzzFeed in terms of technology, product development, revenue generation, and culture. A sense of humor wouldn't hurt.

Women, BIPOC, and LGBTQ candidates are enthusiastically encouraged to apply.
