VICE is seeking an editor-in-chief to lead its new personal finance vertical. The site is dedicated to inspiring the VICE audience to make better decisions about their financial future. It's a comprehensive guide to understanding and navigating the current economic landscape, as well as providing help just figuring out the basics. VICE understands that for Millennials, money is not the end goal - money is the means, money is a tool, and money creates possibility. Part topical coverage, part educational/utility, and part tentpole editorial series, we will employ multi-format storytelling to deliver content in an authentic voice. We'll demystify money by providing insight, speaking with honesty and transparency, and showcasing how it can unlock a world of experiences.

JOB SUMMARY: The finance space is extremely noisy, and to stand apart, this site must have a clear, useful voice and vision, and one that is capable of using every multimedia and platform tool at its disposal to better support our audience in taking meaningful and realistic steps towards securing their financial future.

Experience in telling amazing stories across multiple formats and platforms is crucial, as is an ability to manage a team across multiple locales and languages. We're looking for someone who understands what makes a VICE story, who has a good sense of what makes the company unique, and is dedicated to standing apart from the churn and noise of endemic financial media.

Most importantly, we're looking for someone who has a vision for how to continue to develop the site and its journalism in the years to come. Developing a unique and effective editorial vision, and continuing the grow the site's output, audience, and impact will be the central metrics for success.

This is an exciting opportunity to launch something new and build it from the ground up.

  • Provide a deep understanding of market competitive landscape, trends and user needs, and translate that understanding into growing the site’s dedicated readership.
  • Work closely with the Publisher and Creative Director to ensure the viability of both the editorial and business strategies.

EXPERIENCE / EDUCATION:

  • BA/BS, minimum 5 years in a supervisory editorial capacity.
  • Ability to manage multiple responsibilities and assignments simultaneously under strict deadlines.
  • Deep understanding of digital media strategy, audience development, and strong editing skills.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to multi-task in a fast paced environment.
