Thrillist is looking for a dynamic Staff Writer to join our expanding Entertainment team. This ideal candidate is an idea machine, and has a knack for quickly synthesizing trending pop-culture topics in ways that go beyond mere news aggregation, without sacrificing voice. This role will also be tasked with maintaining and expanding on our obsessive service coverage of existing and upcoming TV shows and movies on all platforms, so an omnivorous appetite for all things entertainment and a proactive, organized approach are essential. The Staff Writer should be keenly interested in understanding who our audience is and how we can be most useful to them. You’ll use your extensive knowledge, curiosity, and sense of humor to help our readers better enjoy and explore the pop-culture landscape.

Responsibilities:

  • Work with team editors to write and publish multiple engaging, reader-focused entertainment stories per day

  • Contribute enthusiastically to brainstorms and team projects, in addition to taking on assignments from editors

  • Bring the same level of urgency to every task, whether it's a short write-up or a research-intensive feature

  • Have an understanding of who's reading our stories and how to reach them most effectively

  • Consistently deliver stories on deadline, and proactively pitch stories and tackle workload

  • Use data insights and analytics to better understand our audience, and to inform pitches, selection, and execution

Qualifications:

  • 2+ years of experience writing about entertainment

  • Fast, productive writer with an engaging voice and legitimate organization skills

  • Ability to produce short and mid-length articles with little oversight

  • Strong understanding of SEO best practices, as well as how stories are read and distributed over social platforms

  • Excellent communicator and collaborative team member

  • Proficient with CMS and image-sourcing

  • On camera and podcast experience a plus
