The Role

BuzzFeed is looking for a Newsletter Writer to work in our New York headquarters. Reporting to our Director of Audience Development, you will help oversee all of our newsletters across BuzzFeed.com. 

You will have some writing and editing experience, overall basic knowledge of newsletter distribution and strategy and an interest in data and engagement analytics. You are passionate about audiences and providing them the content they love and a desire to work in media at an innovative and fast-moving organization.

You will:

• Write and produce newsletters across BuzzFeed.com
• Participate in strategizing how to continue the growth of BuzzFeed’s newsletter subscriber base
• Help to identify new newsletter product opportunities based on audience needs and interests
• Partner with our ad sales team to build ad sales sponsorships in newsletters
• Work with our Audience Development Strategist to chart subscriber growth and retention 
• Collaborate with staff across the organization to help launch and scale new email products across the organization
• Brainstorm with our editorial team to identify new content areas and newsletter course ideas
• Experiment and test new formats, and content areas that resonate with our newsletter audience
• Work with Audience Development Strategist to track the performance of newsletters, and use data analytics to share learnings with the team
• Be our eyes and ears on the social web: stay up-to-date with trends in the meme-verse, to keep us at its cutting edge

You have:

• 2+ years experience in a content, or audience development role
• Excellent copywriting skills and the ability to work on multiple projects at once
• Ability to communicate complex ideas and work efficiently with the larger team 
• Ability to handle a variety of roles, including creating content and growth strategies for newsletter products
• Willing to take ownership of big projects and to do the work to get products launched on deadline
• Curious and willing to do deep research and analysis of what newsletter products are working and which ones are not 
• Ability to take the perspectives of others and collaborate with lots of players on a growing team 
• An understanding of engagement and content performance metrics
• Some experience with real-time analytics and creating and sending newsletters
