Overview

 The VICE News Social Editor is the direct voice of our two television shows, VICE News Tonight and VICE on HBO, and our website, news.vice.com. They are the eyes and ears of the newsroom on the front line of social media and beyond. This position is one of the most critical parts of the VICE News team that delivers to an audience of over 9 million across socials. 

 Roles And Responsibilities

• Use news judgment and data to curate VICE News network stories on all social platforms, including Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, newsletter and VICE apps
• Package and deliver video segments from both television shows
• Livetweet and deliver assets for both shows 
• Create platform-specific content with our production teams, including text, photo, video, and interactive
• Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and decipher real-time analytics to push out relevant content on distributed platforms
• Edit and A/B test headlines to maximize click through and engagement on all stories and provide feedback to editorial team
• Pitch stories to editorial staff on shows and site
• Act as eyes and ears on social platforms, alerting the newsroom to breaking news
• Liaise between international territories to optimize posting schedule
• Assist in the enacting of paid media strategy

 Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in relevant field; newsroom experience a huge plus
• 2-3 years experience in journalism, social media or newsroom experience at a major media company
• Familiarity with Chartbeat, Google Analytics, Dataminr, YouTube Analytics, Twitter Analytics, Crowdtangle, Facebook Insights and reporting data from all platforms a plus
• Familiarity with the VICE News, VICE News Tonight and VICE on HBO and brand voice
• Innovative background, especially in regards to video, multimedia, visual and interactive media, and how these translate to engagement
• Basic understanding of Adobe Premiere and Photoshop a plus
