The News & Issues desk at VICE.com is looking for a thoughtful, high-energy editor to shape our Opinion section. This person is a weathervane—always able to foresee where the national conversation is headed—and can engage op-ed writers to craft compelling, sometimes provocative, always smart pieces that will get noticed and have impact. This person has strong editorial instincts and can help shape experts into writers when necessary. They know where the line is between a rant and a strong argument, and are skilled at thought-provoking, compelling packaging.
ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Identifying the most important, conversation-leading areas to focus our opinion coverage
- Developing expert sources for exclusives
- Overseeing writers in conceiving and executing stories that feel fresh and readable
- At least 4 years of editing experience
- A quick metabolism for generating conversation-starting stories hooked to the news cycle
- Proven experience delivering coverage with a POV that sets itself apart
- An aversion to clichés and boring writing
