About Thrillist:

Thrillist means fun; we are the essential resource for how to spend your time and money. We're eaters, drinkers, travelers, and doers. We serve the curious and believe that new experiences are what drive the richest lives. We bring our passion, expertise, and taste to bear on the things that are truly worth your time and money. Life’s for living, and that’s why we’re here. Today will be great. In December 2016, Thrillist joined forces with NowThis, The Dodo and Seeker to form Group Nine Media -- a global top 10 publisher.

Thrillist is seeking a wildly creative, experienced, and ambitious Supervising Producer to work directly for the Head of Video. You will be charged with guiding a team of multiple preditors and an Engagement Editor whose goal is telling stories that move our audience of eaters, drinkers, viewers, travelers and doers. These pillars are core to everything we do, and you'll be responsible for making sure we deliver them to our audience in compelling and new ways within several existing franchises, while also brainstorming and executing new ones on a regular and consistent basis. This position requires someone who has in-depth knowledge of how to execute storytelling that cuts to the bone, who is comfortable with data and analytics, who has years of video production experience, and is able to impart that wisdom onto the rest of the team to lead and grow them to unabashed success.
Responsibilities:

  • Work directly with the Head of Video to set the team's strategy and to produce the most interesting and impactful Thrillist content possible
  • Manage a team of 5 in the production of several existing and new franchises, ensuring all videos are created in the Thrillist tone and style, and embody all department best practices
  • Ideate original, engaging stories that get to the heart of what is relevant, delicious, and fun in people’s lives. Inspire, encourage, and drive others to do the same
  • Work directly with the Engagement Editor to curate compelling and eye-catching headlines
  • Consistently brainstorm with the written staff in order to pitch great, on-brand stories, and then turn those good ideas into great videos
  • Approve and edit video concept pitches & scripts on a daily basis
  • Work with Head of Video and Creative Director on evolving the look and feel of all franchises under your purview
  • Be comfortable working on sponsored content and understanding a client's needs should a series or franchise have advertiser alignment -- all while being sure the brand comes first!
  • Work with Development team to turn franchise hits into larger series, and vice versa
  • Work in tandem with the Audience Development team to make smart and educated decisions on which stories to tell, and establish a cadence around the best ways to get our videos in front of our audience
  • Effectively manage the team’s time to ensure everything runs smoothly and efficiently by assigning tasks and deadlines daily, and impressing upon the team the importance of coming in on time and under budget
  • Work with the Head of Video on staffing, efficiencies, and day to day operations
  • Use reporting tools (such as GA, Chartbeat, Facebook Analytics, and custom dashboards) to inform strategy and decision making (who should we be partnering with? Think brands, products, personalities ...)
  • Manage personnel decisions on the team, including time-off requests, performance reviews, leading the hiring process, and recommending termination in the event a team member isn’t meeting the company’s goals

Qualifications:

  • A deep understanding of the Thrillist brand, voice, lifestyle, and how to convey that through visual storytelling
  • 3-5 years of production experience at a large-scale digital media publisher, or somewhere similar
  • Must possess a strong comfort in addressing senior staff across departments when necessary
  • Exceptional communication skills
  • Obsessive about detail and staying organized -- you’ll be managing many projects and deadlines simultaneously.
  • A passion for being in management and the desire to be a strong and effective leader
  • Deep knowledge of the national food/drink/entertainment/travel scene -- but one that never comes close to snobbery
  • Experience as an on-the-ground producer who can leverage that knowledge to make both our videos and staff better
  • Familiarity with rights and clearances for obtaining third-party footage
  • Openness to constructive criticism
  • Experience recruiting and managing a stable of freelance producers, editors, writers, and shooters
