Data Analyst
Bubble is the leading no-code builder for web and mobile apps. Our platform lets any computer-literate person build a tech business without prior programming knowledge. One Bubble user with a few days of training is equivalent to a team of software engineers with years of experience. We’ve already enabled thousands of businesses around the world to build software. Many of these businesses have gone on to great success, including raising hundreds of millions in capital or joining Y Combinator. With more people turning to entrepreneurship and digital products as COVID impacts the economy, Bubble’s solution is increasingly critical.
We have a lot of data - now we’re looking for a Data expert to help us draw insights from this data, understand our product and business better, and make more data-informed decisions. This will be a generalist role, meaning this person will help with our data needs across the Product, Growth and BizOps teams.
To give you a sense of where we’re at today, we spent a lot of time through 2020 cleaning up our data systems. We currently have a couple of tools that help us get all our data into a data warehouse (Snowflake - hence we use Snowflake SQL) and we use Looker as our BI tool. We have data pertaining to our product (e.g. in-product event logging), to growth (e.g. paid acquisition platforms), to our key business metrics (e.g. Stripe and costs data), to our users, and more.
We are looking for somebody who is both very fluent with SQL and very adept at working with stakeholders across a company to answer the most impactful data-based questions. On one hand, this individual will be working with many different people on the team - from co-founders to folks across the Product, Growth and BizOps teams - to help derive insights from our data. This person will also help us find which questions we should be asking that we aren’t yet and drive the company towards better data-based decision-making. On the other hand, this individual will also be in charge of our data infrastructure - maintaining and improving our existing SQL, fixing any problems with our data pipelines (as possible), setting up new data pipelines, etc.
(Note: we don’t expect this person to do much data engineering. If you have this kind of technical background already, great! If you don’t but are interested in learning over time, that’s great too!)
Note: at this time, we are only considering candidates who are authorized to work in the US
We’re looking for someone who
- Is very fluent in SQL
- Has worked with a data stack similar to ours
- Has worked in a Data role at a startup that was at least Series A
- Is fairly technically inclined - knows at least a bit of coding (e.g. Javascript, Python) or is very open to learning this over time
- Enjoys working cross-functionally with a team and on data questions spanning the whole company
- Good attention to details and is organized
- Has 4-6 years of experience working in a Data Analyst / Product Analyst / Data Scientist role
- Note: experience with machine learning and big data analysis are great nice-to-haves, but we don’t anticipate needing these kinds of analyses for a while
We think these might be some of the traits of a great fit for this role:
- Loves learning new productivity tools or other complex tools
- Loves creating things, working on side projects, or thinking about ways to make something more efficient
- Marries deep technical data expertise with strong generalist skills
- Is not afraid to roll up their sleeves and get their hands dirty
- Knows when a quick answer will suffice versus when a much deeper dive is desirable
- Gets super excited doing a quantitative analysis, but also excited about qualitative feedback / research to better understand users
In terms of the process, we will first review your resume / application. If we think there might be a good fit, we will then ask you to complete a take-home exercise which tests SQL proficiency - this is in lieu of an in-person technical interview. After that, there will be a couple rounds of videochats with our team.
We’re based in New York City but are remote at least till April 1, 2021 given the circumstances. If you’re open to moving to NYC one day, great, but don’t hesitate to reach out if that’s not really on your horizon - we’ll chat. You can learn more about our company culture at bubble.io/careers.
We look forward to hearing from you!
