The Risk Management team creates competitive advantage for OnDeck through excellence in risk/reward optimization while simultaneously exercising its function of control in a vigorous and diligent fashion. The Risk Management team develops strategies and models to extend credit in a profitable manner to small businesses and their owners based on a strong understanding of the behavioral and commercial drivers of its customers and on sophisticated analysis of data. As the control function of OnDeck, the Risk Management Team ensures that that the portfolio, policies, strategies, new product features or operational processes at OnDeck are consistent with the risk appetite set by the management team and the board.
The Manager of Acquisition Risk Management is responsible for the ideation, design, implementation, and monitoring of credit risk management strategies and capabilities that help us serve the needs of our customers and shareholders. This includes the development of approval and line assignment strategies, marketing optimization, monitoring and continuous improvement of risk strategies.
As the Manager of Acquisition Risk Management at OnDeck, you will:
- Develop / improve marketing segmentation, approval and line assignment strategies and controls across our full suite of products and geographic markets
- Perform analytics on small business data to develop new insights that lead to improved risk management, profitability, and customer experience outcomes
- Develop and interpret reports to monitor risk strategy performance and recommend adjustments
- Design tests to measure potential business enhancements, analyze results, and drive adoption based on strategic impact
- Monitor key performance metrics relating to OnDeck’s portfolio, including identification of underlying factors impacting performance
- Interface with Pricing, Product, Revenue, Marketing, Finance, and Operations teams to build relationships, and collaboratively solve problems
- Take a pro-active approach to risk management within the risk guidelines of OnDeck
- Perform detailed analysis and interpret information to make recommendations to Senior Management on critical strategies including ad-hoc requests
Necessary qualifications for success:
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Economics, Statistics, Mathematics or other quantitative fields. Master’s degree preferred
- Work Experience: 5-7 years in credit risk management strategy for consumer or commercial lending products.
- Business Acumen: Excellent business judgment and credit risk assessment as demonstrated by previous work experience with the ability to pro-actively diagnose issues and identify multiple directions and tactics to solve them.
- Project Management: Ability to manage multiple team projects, drive them forward, set expectations across multiple teams and keep project statuses up to date with necessary stakeholders
- Analytical Thinking: Excellent SQL and analytic programming skills (R, Python, Excel) with the ability to work with large data sets to make decisions and drive credit strategies.
- Strategic Thinking: Knowledge and experience with statistical concepts and financial analysis, with the ability to solve mathematic problems in order to develop multiple ideas and credit solutions (customer segmentation, break-even analysis, NPV estimation)
- Effective Communication: Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to construct a story and effectively interact with various target audiences. Ability to adjust communication style to different levels of the organization.
- Autonomy: Ability to work independently with little direction and pro-actively seek guidance when needed. Possesses the determination to continuously learn and take ownership over projects and ability to bring own ideas to the table - advocating strongly for them in pursuit of the right results.
- Flexibility: Adaptable around timelines and shifting prioritization and comfortable in a fast-paced business-critical role that is a key contributor to OnDeck’s continued success
