MSK’s Office of Development is building a best-in-class decision science and prospect development operation to support our dynamic fundraising operation.  With millions of engaged donors mobilized to support th

e fight against cancer, prospect development at MSK is both a remarkable opportunity and a worthwhile challenge.

 

The Research Analyst is a strategy partner for a group of individual and institutional giving officers, collaborating with officers and prospect development team members to assemble, evaluate, refine, and communicate information relevant to raising funds to support Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center.  Research analysts may be deployed on high-volume prospect identification projects, in-depth research guided by the needs of the solicitation cycle, or a combination of both approaches.

 

You will:

  • Identify, evaluate, and communicate relevant information from MSK systems and external resources to facilitate fundraising strategy. Examples of key areas of prospect research include financial status, professional and personal background, social connections, philanthropic priorities, current and historical relationships with MSK, and potential reputational risks inherent in MSK's engagement with particular constituents. 
  • Ensure the outcome of research work is stored effectively and efficiently in the CRM database.
  • Collect, analyze, and interpret complex financial information from a wide variety of sources, including business and legal documents, the US Securities and Exchange Commission, the Internal Revenue Service, and state property assessors.
  • Based on this information, rate the financial capacity of donors and prospective donors to make pledges of various sizes. This determination is key to assignment of constituents to various programs and to overall campaign strategy and planning.
  • Based on a solid understanding of fundraising and Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center, exercise judgment and make recommendations for next steps relating to assembled intelligence. Examples include recommending appropriate programs for assignment of prospects, connections to facilitate initial contact and engagement, or compelling strategies for solicitation.
  • Work with prospect management and analytics colleagues to adjust and embed research results in campaign planning, at every stage of campaign implementation from preparation to kickoff to wrap up.
  • Working with process improvement team, actively participate in continuous process improvement efforts to streamline prospect development processes

You are:

  • Experienced evaluating information to make recommendations in a work environment
  • A skilled communicator and collaborator with colleagues having a wide variety of perspectives
  • Imaginative and open-minded about ways technology could be applied to prospect research processes
  • Committed to excellence and continuous improvement

You have:

  • A master’s degree with at least two years’ experience as a fundraiser or prospect development professional, OR
  • A bachelor’s degree with at least four years’ experience as a fundraiser or prospect development professional, OR
  • A high school diploma with at least seven years’ experience as a fundraiser or prospect development professional
  • Some experience with healthcare philanthropy would be helpful
  • Some experience with international philanthropy would be helpful
  • Some experience with corporate and foundation philanthropy would be helpful
