We are looking for a Senior Analytics Engineer to join the Business Intelligence (BI) team at Even. You will use strong technical skills to support internal and external stakeholders with data, analysis and strategy to drive key decisions and growth. This role requires hands-on data modeling, schema structuring, experience with ETL processes and writing performant queries. Your time will be focused primarily on maintaining and optimizing our looker data model, working with product and engineering teams to collaborate on ETL processes, new product releases, A/B testing, and funnel optimization, developing experimental data tooling for internal users, and fostering technical mentorship on analytics within the growing technical BI track at the company.


Even has a very data driven culture. 70% of the company reviews and looks at data in our dashboarding environment on a weekly basis. The work that the BI team performs impacts all departments in the organization, and also touches executive, investor, client, and board level initiatives. 

Day to Day Responsibilities Include:

  • Own and lead the analytical warehouse strategy for Even. This involves leading rapid paced projects that will involve coordinating a large number of diverse departments in the company to drive a comprehensive data strategy
  • Design and build performant and optimal data schemas that allow for deep understanding of our product stack. Learn about our product, and build the analytical structures that empower the rest of Even to generate insights that optimize our product
  • Establish a strong framework for product analytics at Even, owning initiatives such as A/B testing, product insights and analytics; and take a leadership role in shaping product development through data in collaboration with product
  • Build strong relationships with product and engineering to ensure that the right data is captured and structured upstream
  • Use SQL, Python (pandas, numpy, pyspark) and LookML (via Looker) to optimize our data models and work with data engineering to optimize/validate upstream data pipelines for performance
  • Provide technical mentorship for the BI team (PR reviews, code reviews, training), especially members on the technical track and beyond to uplevel overall data knowledge at the company
  • Operate against deadlines - BI is a rapid paced team that responds to changing and dynamic market conditions
  • Design and implement optimized internal and external dashboards using creative visualization techniques (advanced Looker, Tableau, and Python)
  • Work closely with data science on ways that ML can augment our data, and building experimental tooling and metrics that help our internal/external customers
  • Be a hands on team player in a high performing team - participate and provide constructive feedback to evolve team processes and team initiatives. This also means getting your hands dirty with ad hoc analyses, executive decks, and rapidly iterating and reprioritizing initiatives as needed. Even is a hypergrowth company and you will be encountering ambiguity and day by day shifting priorities.

Highly Preferred Qualifications Include:

  • Experience with AWS technologies Previous experience with Looker and LookML
  • Interest in experimental data techniques, A/B testing and data science techniques a bonus
  • Strong interest in financial services markets, technology, or business side problems, and making data driven recommendations
  • Understands the tradeoff between perfection and execution. You will need to balance data driven decision making with the rapid delivery of projects within tight time constraints.
  • Creative problem solving and challenging the norm

Core Competencies Include:

  • 5+ years of experience in an analytical role with technical and code-oriented data analysis (SQL, LookML, Python)
  • 2+ years of on-the-job data modeling and schema design experience, optimizing for performant and scalable systems
  • Coding proficiency in SQL and Python, with the ability to confidently explain methodology to non-technical stakeholders and more junior members of the team
  • Data modeling, schema design, and data visualization skills with a focus on query performance and analytical readiness; comprehensive knowledge of joins and their optimized use
  • Prior experience working hands on with data engineering and product teams around developing reporting/analytic tools and environments
  • Ability to identify problems and propose solutions from informal business requirements
  • Highly detail oriented despite ambiguity, constant reprioritization, tight timelines, and competing priorities
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to positively influence decision making across different teams with different vernaculars
