ABOUT THIS ROLE
The Venture and Emerging Business Principal will focus on a) identifying business opportunities with early and late stage technology and content startups, specifically in the spoken word category, and b) improving sector intelligence to foster greater innovation at Audible, with a particular focus on strengthening Audible's partnership with Newark Venture Partners (NVP) and its portfolio companies. A primary function of the role will be to work directly with NVP leadership, Audible senior leadership, and their respective teams, to drive and accelerate Audible and NVP's vision of providing strategic and financial value to investors while growing Newark's burgeoning tech ecosystem. The Principal will also directly partner with early stage companies that align with Audible's strategic priorities through a variety of deal structures.
As a Venture & Emerging Business Principal, you will...• Discover and activate new venture and emerging business investments, business development, and growth opportunities for Audible's core strategic priorities and/or for NVP investment portfolio, in close partnership with Audible's Strategic Transactions and Audible Corp Dev deal teams.• Observe the global spoken word venture ecosystem and appraise Audible senior leadership of trends and recommendations to inform Audible's strategic priorities.• Identify opportunities for start-ups to plug into the Audible and greater Amazon ecosystem.• Forge new partnerships with other key NVP corporate partners and investors, and actively participate in strategic NVP leadership meetings, events, and other networking opportunities.• Closely support Newark-focused joint priorities for Audible and NVP.• Support the coordination of communications and public strategy between Audible and NVP to ensure consistency in the external narrative.
Basic Qualifications• Direct and significant experience working with a VC fund (independent of captive) or at a venture-backed company with direct relationships with VC investors.• 10+ years of experience in a combination of digital media, venture, finance strategy, consulting or an equivalent field.• Bachelor's degree in Economics, Finance, Business, Math or related fields.
Preferred Qualifications• Knowledge of the audio soundscape, including content creation, creator services, and live audio.• Proven, successful track record of navigating through ambiguous situations.• Ability to use contextual knowledge to connect dots and drive synergies between a wide array of people and organizations.• Strong analytical and quantitative skills; ability to work with founders to define key business questions and to build data sets that answer those questions.• Experience motivating a broad array of people and organizations to work together towards a large common goal.• Leader who can prioritize well and communicate clearly across all levels of multiple organizations.• Have an eye for detail, foresee the unforeseen.• MBA or equivalent graduate degree.
