Description:

A Design Lead at Learnvest/Northwestern Mutual has a passion for simplicity and product design which truly makes a difference in people's lives. They are beacons of quality in the department and play a critical role in our digital transformation, overseeing major initiatives from a strategic and design quality perspective. 

A Design Lead marks the transition from pure execution to strategic thinking and is a ramp into leadership within the design department. Design Leads not only push the quality of work across the discipline but also partner with other discipline leads, product and engineering to bring the work to life.  

They play an active role in defining our vision and the future of our products. They should be incredibly passionate about the work we are doing and always striving to push our vision forward. 

Responsibilities:

  • Lead multiple initiatives from a strategic and design quality perspective and oversee the visual designers working across all
  • Foster strong collaboration with all disciplines of design, product and engineering to bring the work to life
  • Manage 1-3 designers and be able to tailor advice and feedback to each person both in terms of the work but also career development goals
  • Lead by example. Be a beacon of design excellence in the department. 
  • Be an advocate for design and create strategic deliverables which demonstrate the value of your work 

Qualifications:

  • 6+ years of digital product experience (digital agency experience is a plus) 
  • Experience working across major digital initiatives and overseeing a small to mid-size team of designers
  • Significant knowledge of the fundamentals: graphic design, user experience design, user-centered design, and how products are put together 
  • Self-starter who is user-focused, detail and solutions oriented 
  • Link to work or an online portfolio with a heavy focus on digital product design is a must
