The Opportunity:

Shutterstock is a technology company that powers one of the world’s largest marketplaces for high-quality photos, illustrations, videos and music used by businesses, marketing agencies and media organizations of all sizes.

Shutterstock is made up of independent thinkers, technologists, and designers – working collaboratively to do compelling work, create cool stuff, and inspire each other. In the process, we’re building sophisticated tools to help the world experience images, footage, and music in a more beautiful way.

Because we are a digital business, the Shutterstock Product Design team designs the business and all the customer and contributor experiences. We are responsive and know what our customers are doing and what platform they’re doing it on. We think globally and advocate for the individual. That means quantitative, qualitative and analytical research. It also means lots of collaboration with product owners and developers. And because we’re agile, we are quick on our feet and know how to iterate. But most of all we are compassionate - we want to solve problems and solve them with integrity.

As a Senior Product Designer, you’ll be an important design leader at Shutterstock, guiding design decisions that support the customer, business and technology. You’ll create scalable designs for customers around the world - from first time users to creative professionals. Achieving this goal requires collaboration with product teams and stakeholders throughout the organization — from conception to smooth roll-outs.

Responsibilities:

You will be a major advocate for the customer creating best in class ecommerce app experiences. You will be responsible for improving existing flows and processes and designing new processes to meet customer needs and drive business initiatives to realize Shutterstock’s vision of being the marketplace to empower the world’s storytellers.

  • Act as a cross-functional design leader within the UX & Product Design team, collaborating with other designers to ensure consistency and to make their work and the whole team better
  • Work through design problems from beginning to end: translating research insights into ideas that form disruptive new products and features, then sketching and prototyping these ideas to quickly assess viability, and design detailed interaction behaviors
  • Serve as the voice of the customer and act as a customer experience advocate when considering design decisions that will impact both customer and contributors
  • Design and prototype scalable design solutions to help grow our global business
  • Passionate about translating complex business logic into simple creative solutions
  • Bring best-practices and innovation to an agile team that is in ongoing release and optimization
  • Enjoys working closely with product managers, engineers, data scientists and customer happiness teams to inform design decisions that lead to high business impact
  • Gets excited by data and doesn’t scare you; it helps inform your design decisions
  • Embrace A/B testing as a methodology to understand what design and interactions work best toward acquiring more customers and retaining them.
  • Passionate about mentorship to other members of the design team

Requirements:

  • 5+ years of experience designing digital products, ideally applications for iOS and Android (while being able to present a rich portfolio of past projects to demonstrate your passion and knowledge about apps)
  • Degree in VIsual Design, Interaction Design, Industrial Design, Motion, Architecture, Urban Planning, Graphic Design, HCI, or related field of study (or work experience in lieu of degree)
  • Experience building high-performance e-commerce apps and sites is a huge plus
  • Experience with front-end coding for web and/or mobile apps (HTML, CSS, Swift, Objective-C, React, Java and XML), ability to prototype in code a big plus
  • You are comfortable working in the Agile methodology and side-by-side with developers on a daily basis
  • You listen well and have excellent speaking and writing skills and can articulate your decision and design process
  • You are respectful when challenging assumptions and give and receive feedback with equal grace
  • You understand usability testing concepts and know how and when to run them
  • You’re an advocate for user interviews and incorporating feedback into design prototypes
  • You are a responsible adult. You estimate work, commit and deliver on deadlines and are vocal when risk arises
  • You enjoy working with a great group of designers, who genuinely care about design, and each other
