The 1stdibs Product team is a highly collaborative team that creates buyer, seller, and internal product experiences for our users on web and app-based products. We work in our office headquarters in Astor Place, New York City. 

We are looking for a Director of Product Design with a strong visual and UI design practice to lead the design of our consumer-facing web experiences by delivering product designs that promote our platform business strategy and align with the needs and behaviors of our users. Product designers partner with product owners, engineers, researchers, and marketing teams to deliver world-class solutions. 

What you'll do

• Deliver product designs that address business and user goals
• Partner with a wide range of stakeholders including product owners, marketing, UX research, and developers
• Manage and mentor Product Designers by supporting their design practice and career development
• Champion usability and brand by ensuring consistent use of interaction and visual design patterns
• Collaborate with engineering to support development of design solutions 
• Evolve existing design system
• Participate in research initiatives and incorporate insights into proposed designs
• Develop tools and processes to improve design efficiency and effectiveness
• Deliver pixel-perfect screens and specifications to support development
• Prototype concepts for testing and stakeholder communication

Who you are

• Bachelor’s degree in Interaction Design, Visual Design, Graphic Design, HCI or related field
• Experience designing consumer-facing e-commerce experiences for web and mobile platforms
• Experience defining design activities that result in the delivery of impactful products
• Mastery of screen design and relevant tools
• Experience presenting designs across disciplines
• Possess strong verbal, written and visual presentation skills with value placed on storytelling
• Fluency with low and high-fidelity design deliverables
• In-house product design experience, proven ability in collaborating with business, marketing, technology, and research stakeholders
• Substantial understanding and awareness of the technologies used to create great web experiences
