THE POSITION:
This position reports to the Head of Human Resources with a co-reporting line into the legal department and will provide all legal support for the human resources department. The Director of Legal Affairs, Human Resources will oversee the drafting and negotiation of all employment agreements, HR policies and handbooks, and incentive equity awards across all global offices. He or she will be responsible for mitigating employment-related risk internationally and will have expertise in both employment law and executive compensation.
Responsibilities:
- Managing executive compensation and employment equity incentive programs
- Drafting, reviewing and negotiating employment offer letters, separation agreements, consulting contracts and other employment-related agreements, and maintaining templates of such documents
- Supporting all entities in the corporate structure, newly acquired companies, international market entry companies and joint ventures
- Providing advice relating to international foreign employment law, statues and regulations
- Managing immigration and global mobility
- Coordinating with outside counsel to negotiate with labor unions and guilds
- Managing the administration of collective bargaining agreements
- Counseling on training, employee disciplinary actions, suspensions, terminations, non-compete agreements and other restrictive covenants, benefits matters, corporate transactions, workplace investigations, risk avoidance measures, employee-related mediations, discrimination/harassment claims, FMLA and other protected leaves, wage and hour issues, workplace accommodations, executive compensation, hiring practices, data privacy, and the drafting and reviewing of policies and handbooks
Qualifications:
- J.D. degree with admission to one or more state bars in good standing required (NY or CA preferred)
- 3 – 5 years of legal experience in either a top tier firm or in a similar in-house role, with a consistent focus on employment law
- Experience managing executive compensation required
- Experience with international offices and global mobility preferred
- Experience with labor unions or guilds preferred
- Highly organized, detail oriented and self-motivated
- Superior communication and interpersonal abilities
- Excellent drafting and contract negotiation skills
- A demonstrated ability to work independently and as a team member while serving a variety of departments within the company
- Ability and desire to work in a fast-paced and challenging environment, prioritizing and juggling multiple matters
- Ability to use good judgment and common sense when interacting with outside and inside contacts and performing job functions
- Flexibility and willingness to work with other corporate departments
