Engineering Manager - Edge Infrastructure
Squarespace is looking for a passionate and experienced engineering manager with a background in systems, programming, and networking to lead and grow our Edge Infrastructure team. You'll be in charge of Squarespace’s ingress traffic, serving millions of users worldwide, ensuring that customers around the world are able to access Squarespace sites and that they are routed securely, quickly and efficiently to the correct services.
The Edge Infrastructure builds the reverse proxies and caching layers that process 1.5+ billion requests every day, own load balancing and routing, integrate with CDNs, handle TLS termination and understand HTTP/2. In this role you'll scale the team and develop the next generation products and features that will protect our infrastructure from Layer 7 attacks using machine learning and data science technologies; add QUIC to our list of supported transport layer protocols; implement reuse of connections through HTTP keepalives to minimize the number of server-side TCP connections; and roll out Layer 3 anycast load balancing and route manipulation using exaGBP, Quagga and Bird.
Responsibilities
- Build the team and develop engineers through coaching, mentoring, and feedback
- Lead a team of software engineers supporting, developing and evolving Edge products
- Effectively partner with other leaders to influence strategic architectural and organizational choices
- Grow the technical expertise and development practices of your teams
- Participate in the scrum team under our agile development process utilizing software development best practices
- Partner with the recruiting team to attract, onboard, and retain diverse talent
Qualifications
- You have a deep passion for building and coaching high-performing engineering teams
- Real world experience building and supporting large-scale and highly-available web applications
- Hands-on experience developing software in Java in a Unix/Linux environment
- Experience delivering multiple, concurrent projects
- Development and/or architecture experience in an enterprise network environment, such as proxy/gateway, SSL, web application firewall, load balancer, CDN, etc.
- Working experience with Netty, Nginx or any open source proxy is a plus.
