Security Engineering Manager
Check is a payroll-as-a-service API that lets you embed payroll directly in your vertical SaaS, HR, or time-tracking platform. Our API abstracts away the complexities of running payroll: tax calculation, remittance, and filing, plus the movement of money between companies and employees. This enables companies to easily build fully integrated payroll products to offer to their customers.

For this role, we are seeking a security engineering manager with an entrepreneurial mindset, deep technical experience, and high integrity. With the support of leadership, you'll have an outsized impact on the security of our product and a growing organization.
In this role, you will:
- Lead security engineering, owning the roadmap and security mechanisms for all of our development lifecycle
- Establish tooling and data architecture for the organization to detect and respond to threats
- Alongside Check leadership, evangelize the company security culture and engage with the security community
- Partner with legal and other functions to develop and execute on security policies
- Manage security review process with partners, vendors, and 3rd parties
- Recruit great engineers in partnership with our recruiting team
Many backgrounds could fit this role, but ideal candidates will have:
- Empathy for users and stakeholders
- Experience in a security-focused engineering management role in a high-stakes production environment
- Holistic, nuanced understanding of security, from the application layer to the cloud inclusive of NetSec, App/ProdSec, and OSINT
- Strong software engineering fundamentals that enable the systems we build to detect and respond to threats
- Ability to communicate complex topics clearly to multiple audiences
- A strong sense of ownership and ability to drive through ambiguity
Our team is distributed across the US, with hubs in New York City and San Francisco.
