Over half a billion videos are watched across millions of websites on a JW Player video player every day. The Data Team at JW Player is responsible for processing the associated 3+ TB stream of data every day, extracting signals and building valuable products for media publishers and viewers.

The Discovery team is looking for a Software Engineer, Machine Learning to conceive, design, and build our next generation video intelligence and recommendations products through scaling machine learning algorithms.

Powered by an AWS stack with both realtime and batch data processing, our models operate on a massive scale and have a large impact on our business.

As a member of the Discovery team, you will:

• Work on scaling recommendations algorithms to tens of thousands of requests per second
• Productionize machine learning models for new products
• Use streaming technology for data enrichment, model training and database synchronization
• Contribute to the team’s architecture
• Improve our team’s process and tooling

We’re excited about candidates who have:

• 3+ years experience as a data engineer or software engineer
• 2+ years experience bringing machine learning applications into production
• Experience using Tensorflow, message-based architectures (Kafka, Celery) and/or containerization (Docker, k8s)
• Contributed to open source projects
• Fluency in Python (JVM / C++ a plus) -- we’re fans of the book Effective Python
• A collaborative demeanor
• Excellent communications skills
• An obsession with code quality and process-driven development
• A bias for action. We value team members who are self-starters and take ownership
