We are looking for a disciplined, creative Software Engineer to join our Media Management Pod on Group Nine Media’s Tech team in New York City, NY.

MORE ABOUT THIS ROLE

As a member of this important pod, you’ll work closely with our design and product teams on our internal and proprietary media management tool, Parcel. As a company that produces dozens of videos every day, it is essential for us to account for all of this content and make it available to all areas of the business. Our small team builds not just the front-end tools but also the underlying infrastructure and pipelines that process our content behind the scenes. As such, we are looking for someone who is comfortable with the whole stack.

TOOLS AND TECHNOLOGIES

On the front end, our toolset is built in React. On the backend, we use a variety of technologies across AWS and Google Cloud, including Lambda, Kinesis, BigQuery, and SQS. Javascript is the pod’s language of choice. Day-to-day workflow is managed using GitHub, JIRA, and Confluence.

Some questions/considerations you might face in this role might include:

• How can we continue to ingest and categorize Group Nine’s media in an efficient way without disrupting workflow on the production teams?
• How can we collaborate effectively with the design and product teams to make informed technical decisions and find creative solutions for each project?
• Should we use an existing library or write our own?
• What trends and innovations have I seen recently that can improve and inform the direction of our work?

ARE YOU THE ONE WE’RE LOOKING FOR?

The ideal candidate:

• Has at least 2 years of professional experience as an engineer
• Has a strong familiarity with Javascript
• Has a background in full-stack engineering, including a deep understanding of how a modern web application works end-to-end
• Considers how to optimize for performance and speed when writing code
• Can collaborate with design and product team members to find innovative, creative and technically-sound ways to tell stories
• Thrives in a diverse workplace where knowledge-sharing and professional development is an important part of our culture
• Is endlessly curious about how and why things work
• Advocates for clean, concise code and internal documentation
