About the Job


Spruce is a real estate tech company changing how real estate transactions work. As the Architect on the Spruce Engineering team, you will help us solve difficult problems in our software architecture, lead the way in choosing the best technology for our needs, and guide us through tough decisions and trade offs. In this role, your strong skills in and knowledge of design patterns and principles, enterprise software architecture, microservices, event-driven design, security, etc. will be put to the test while you help us build amazing software and products, and engineer a transparent, fast transaction process that improves access to the largest source of capital most of us will ever have - real estate.


We are seeking a talented, experienced enterprise software architect to join us, reporting to the VP of Engineering. Architects on our team play a critical role in making the best design decisions, solving challenging problems we face, coaching others, and contributing to our team culture. As one of our colleagues, you'll bring your communication skills and unique background to help make ours a diverse, fun, caring and productive team.

What you’ll do

  • Help us solve difficult design and architecture challenges
  • Document and model design proposals and solutions in a simple, compelling way
  • Lead our design and architecture committees and build consensus around design decisions, inspiring others in the spirit of teamwork and collaboration
  • Research and propose technology, solutions, vendors, etc. who will make our software, products and systems better
  • Coach and mentor others who are interested in pursuing a career of an architect
  • Explain and translate complex problems into language that can be understood by audiences with various degrees of technical competency
  • Continuously learn and challenge yourself and others

What we’re looking for

  • You love solving complex problems, reducing complexity, delivering results, and striving for excellence
  • You have experience in making decisions about design and architecture on an enterprise scale
  • You have experience in dealing with some (or all) of the following problem areas:Event driven systems, Microservices vs monoliths (and/or SOA), and Legacy system migration
  • You are a great communicator, are comfortable presenting to external parties if required, and you take care to understand before making yourself understood
  • You thrive in a fast-paced early stage startup environment
  • You have 3+ years of experience in architecture and design
  • You have a thorough understanding of design patterns and principles
  • You have experience with documenting, modeling, and explaining complex ideas in simple ways
  • You have experience with coaching and mentoring, building consensus, collaborating and working as a team
  • You are comfortable with having your ideas challenged and even rejected, and maintaining your zeal, passion, and commitment to work together with the team to deliver the best solutions and results

Compensation

  • The anticipated annual compensation range for this position is $200,000 - $230,000. Stock options are typically a part of the total compensation package determined on a role-by-role basis. Your actual compensation may vary depending on your relevant skills and experience.
  • We provide a competitive benefit package that includes 4 weeks paid PTO, 20 paid sick days, 12 weeks paid parental leave, and comprehensive medical, dental, and vision coverage.
