Responsibilities of the Data Engineer will include but are not limited to:

• Design and implement AF’s next generation reporting data warehouse using the AWS ecosystem
• Play a lead role in the areas of ETL design and development, creating a robust ETL framework with proper triggers and data quality checks in place
• Analyze processes for gaps and weaknesses, building future state models and creating the roadmaps and migration plans to get there
• Translate organizational goals into clearly articulated, actionable project requirements and tasks
• Balance timelines, dependencies, effort, and expected value of solutions to establish and argue for priorities of given projects
• Ensure tight alignment between ongoing development activities and the analytics team;
• Monitoring and supporting production application jobs and processes
• Providing technical support, troubleshooting guidance and knowledge transfer to constituents at AF

Skills and Characteristics: 

• Experience with full product ownership (design, implementation, and maintenance); experience at startups or smaller companies is a plus!
• Strong understanding of SQL theory and practice. 100+ line queries, 7-way joins, and correlated subqueries do not scare you. You can write window functions off the top of your head AND know how and when to use them.
• Data warehouse dimensional design knowledge and the ability to articulate design decisions.
• Experience with database technologies such as MS SQL Server, Postgres, Amazon Redshift, or BigQuery.
• Experience with general-purpose programming/scripting languages such as Python.
• Bonus: familiarity with one or more of the following:
  • Cloud services such as AWS, Microsoft Azure
  • RESTful APIs
  • Experience with a BI tool such as Tableau
• Quick learner and are enthusiastic about introducing and using new technologies/tools to improve the Data Warehouse.
• Disciplined on using office productivity and collaboration tools
• Belief in the Achievement First mission and educational model
• Maturity, humility, sense of humor and “roll-up-my-sleeves” attitude
