MakerBot is looking to hire a Sustaining Engineer! This individual will work with Mechanical, Electrical, Manufacturing, Product Management and Quality Engineers, and Suppliers, including Contract Manufacturers. Responsibilities include improving existing product designs as required to solve technical problems, improve current product capabilities and reduce overall product costs. As Sustaining Engineer, you will:

  • lead efforts to establish and implement short and long-term corrective actions to recurring production and quality issues.
  • help identify and implement changes to reduce the recurring costs of components and assemblies, provide lessons learned inputs to new programs entering the design process report and present data and findings to management, customers, etc.
  • develop and execute validation test plans to confirm production-readiness of new designs and processes
  • develop and improve manufacturing processes through part redesigns and revisions.
  • design custom products using SolidWorks to meet customer specifications.
  • identify cost savings projects and designs.
  • develop good working relationships with vendors to obtain quotes, prototypes and rework of parts.
  • must have a strong attention to detail to complete designs, maintain document control processes, release ECOs and sustain BOMs.
  • solid understanding of geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T).
  • develop, evaluate and improve manufacturing processes and estimate future manufacturing requirements.

As Sustaining Engineer you have:

  • 3-5 years experience on a product development or manufacturing development team with a background in product design
  • A Mechanical Engineering degree (MS is a plus)
  • Lean, Six Sigma, TQM experience a plus
  • Experience in manufacturing methods plastic injection molding, die casting and sheet metal
  • Experience with electronics manufacturing and assembly a plus
  • Good communication skills, ability to present to all levels of the organization
  • Demonstrated understanding of product development life cycles and verifications techniques
  • Experience with change management processes, process control methodologies
  • Excellent people skills
