About the role

Handy is looking for an Accounting Manager to carry out the responsibilities of the Finance / Accounting Department. This position reports directly to the Director of Accounting/Controller. The ideal candidate is someone with an entrepreneurial spirit, enthusiasm for our mission to transform home services, and of course, the ability to turn on a dime when necessary. 

Primary duties:

  • Manage and oversee the day-to-day operations of the accounting department
  • Own end-to-end monthly close process including:
  • Preparing account reconciliations for prepaids, accruals or other assets as needed
  • Reviewing the work of the Senior Accountant
  • Monitor and analyze financial data and produce financial reports or statements
  • Develop deep understanding of Handy’s revenue streams and revenue reporting
  • Compile & review departmental budget versus actual analyses on a monthly basis, including providing explanations for variances, to be presented to CEO, COO and departmental heads
  • Assist in compiling internal and external financial data requests including, but not limited to, quarterly and annual reporting required by the SEC
  • Research accounting issues for compliance with GAAP
  • Lead the communication to develop a new process for recording/reconciling accounts on an as needed basis
  • Contribute to accounting team’s continuous process improvement and always consider ways to make our jobs more efficient

Details about what is required:

  • A Bachelor's degree in accounting (or related) field from an accredited college or university
  • 5 years of experience in accounting, with public accounting experience a major plus 
  • Exceptional knowledge of US Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP)
  • Advanced MS Excel skills
  • Highly skilled in dealing with confidential financial information
  • No tolerance for financial sloppiness
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the proven ability to communicate effectively both inside and outside the finance/accounting department
  • Active Certified Public Accountant (CPA) license 
  • Experience with subscription and/or deferred revenue a plus, but not required
  • Experience with Netsuite a plus, but not required
