What is the role?

At Sidewalk Labs, we imagine, design, test, and build urban innovations to help cities meet their biggest challenges. Our work spans technology and product development, as well as venture investing and real estate. Our Finance team is a key function in keeping all the parts moving in the same direction.

In this role you will report to the Associate Director of Finance as part of a growing and strategic finance team. You’ll be instrumental in helping to build the finance function and involved in all financial aspects of our organization. You will help maintain the books, our financial plan, forecast, and will be deeply involved in reporting. You are excited about the opportunity to help create a strategic, efficient, and scalable Finance function. You love collaboration and are excited to work closely with Alphabet, our portfolio companies, and our partners. Sidewalk Labs is an early stage company so this role requires excellent strategic thinking and execution ability across the finance function.

Our new team member will be a self-starter with financial data acumen and project management expertise to work cross functionally with engineers, accountants and additional stakeholders in a cutting edge, data driven and always evolving environment. The FP&A Associate will play a vital role in the enhancement and scaling of our processes and systems that support the growth and success of the Finance function and Sidewalk Labs as a whole.

Deliverables:

You will hit the ground running and…

  • Work with a cross-functional team of Finance, engineering and ABC to define the requirements of the business to maintain and enhance systems and processes to support accurate financial reporting and decision making
  • Work with large data sets, solving complex problems in a dynamic environment
  • Support the AD, FP&A and other Finance team members to define requirements for ad-hoc data analysis and reporting, being able to work independently to propose solutions
  • You will assist in reviewing project spend requests and maintain Smartsheet project management master data including workflow dashboards and reports

After 3 months, you’ll have a strong understanding of our organization and be a critical support to:

  • Maintain the forecasting model and propose ways to improve our monthly financial reporting including forecasting tools, and assist with ongoing system implementations.
  • Help ensure project controls are adhered to while continually working with business teams, the AD of Finance, the AD Procurement, and the Director of Finance to optimize project management process.
  • Drive period-end workstreams (e.g., forecasting model updates) and assist in reporting results to Sidewalk Labs Finance, Alphabet, and other stakeholders as needed.
  • Manage and continuously improve the consolidated forecasting model and provide budget, actuals, and forecast data to Sidewalk Labs stakeholders.

Looking forward, you’ll be constantly looking for ways to innovate on our process, work with a diverse set of teams, while scaling to meet the demands of the business. You’ll do all this while working with the team to make sure we meet all of the financial reporting requirements and applicable regulations.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • BA/BS degree with a major in finance, or related field
  • A minor in mathematics, statistics, computer science, economics or another quantitative discipline
  • 3-5 years of relevant experience in both financial systems data analysis and project management , with the ability to communicate with technical and non-technical teams to understand and define problems, and articulate proposed solutions
  • Technical competence to perform advanced analytics over large data sets with experience in Python, SQL and/or other analytic tools (e.g. Bigquery) and visualization packages (e.g. Tableau)
  • A a no-job-is-too-small attitude with a passion for solving complex problems through data analysis combined with a strong business and financial acumen
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills, proactive, ability to prioritize, meet deadlines, and effectively deal with ambiguity in a fast moving company with a wide variety of strategic initiatives
  • Detail oriented, highly motivated and an analytical thinker who also understands the bigger picture.
