Department overview:

We are currently seeking an experienced Head of US Tax to join our talented team of finance professionals to support the domestic tax planning, compliance and financial reporting requirements of our company. The Head of US Tax will report directly into the CFO of the FanDuel Group and will work closely with the PPB Group Tax Director and the wider Group tax function of PPB Group in Dublin and London to help manage the FanDuel Group’s key US tax issues and obligations.

 Role Overview/Purpose:

This role will be responsible for the key US tax issues impacting the US business of the FanDuel Group. Partnering with our business leaders, the Head of US Tax will be responsible for all direct and indirect tax compliance, payments, accounting and internal/external reporting. This is an exciting opportunity to build upon your already strong technical knowledge, business acumen and project management skills.

This is a very hands-on position, so the successful candidate will be energetic, motivated, creative, proactive and is a rare chance to be one of the first tax focused professionals in a new, high growth, industry leading technology company focused on innovation and expansion.

Specific Responsibilities:

  • Establish a strong profile within the FanDuel Group, being the primary point of contact for all US tax related issues and queries, liaising with external advisors where necessary
  • Analyze all existing and new US tax legislation to identify opportunities that minimize the company’s tax liabilities
  • Assist in mitigating the FanDuel Group’s tax risks by preparing guidance and recommendations to US Group management and/or business teams.
  • Working closely with the FanDuel legal team in liaising with regulators and other relevant authorities to ensure the correct tax treatment of our sports and gaming products
  • Reviewing the FanDuel Group’s product development plans to ensure that the correct tax treatment for players’ withholding tax, W2G and 1099-Misc forms are achieved and work with local partners and advisors to agree the position
  • Work closely with the US finance team and PPB Group Tax function to design a US compliance programme which, with support from external advisors, will ensure all federal, state and local income tax filings are accurately filed on time including all direct and indirect local tax compliance. The Head of US Tax will manage the US compliance calendar and take responsibility for all matters relating to US tax compliance
  • Lead the FanDuel Group’s response to all US tax audits
  • Working closely with the wider PPB Group Tax function to ensure compliance with the Group’s transfer pricing policy and supporting the Group Tax function in preparing annual documentation for the FanDuel Group’s US entities
  • Assist the PPB Group Tax Director with providing the ETR and cash tax forecast for the FanDuel Group and with the wider PPB Group’s external reporting requirements including financial statement disclosures

Skills and Capabilities

Essential:

  • At least 8 years of US tax experience, preferably with some years having been spent in house
  • Active CPA, MST or LLM
  • Good exposure to/understanding of indirect tax issues
  • Experienced at communicating commercial, practical and implementable tax clearly and effectively
  • Exhibits strong technical, analytical and problem-solving skills, combined with strong commercial acumen
  • Is a keen strategic thinker with the ability to set objectives and priorities
  • Has high energy and drive, and flexible enough to work in an entrepreneurial, dynamic and changing environment and the resilience to challenge/be challenged with a ‘can-do’ attitude and ‘hands-on’ approach
  • Is assertive and confident, operating credibly with senior stakeholders. Professional, developed influencing skills.

Desirable:

  • Experience of the gaming industry a significant advantage
  • Experience on online models also a benefit.
