As Compass’ Payroll Lead, you will report to the Controller and support the dynamic employee population spanning across all regions where Compass operates. The Payroll Lead will be responsible for developing the growth and expansion strategy for in-house payroll. You will also independently execute all activities related to processing payroll for more than 500 employees, and you will ensure we are a great place to work. You will go above and beyond to ensure our amazing employees are paid timely and accurately. 

At Compass You Will:

  • Own the entire payroll process from beginning to end
  • Develop, recommend and implement process improvements to create best in class processes and strong controls
  • Enter, process and maintain records of employees (new hires and terminations) across numerous jurisdictions
  • Enter and audit all employee earnings, including hours worked, salary wages, exception time and commission, and bonus payments for semi-monthly payroll
  • Audit all employee new hire, termination, garnishment and benefit adjustments
  • Ensure the accuracy and timely filing of 401(k) benefits
  • Process manual and out-of-cycle checks as required
  • Respond to management team and employee inquiries regarding payroll
  • Run audit reports and post-payroll reports, including General Ledger files
  • Ensure accurate and timely accounting, record keeping and management of payroll related data
  • Perform audits and reconciliations of payroll information
  • Research and resolve discrepancies independently
  • Drive compliant and timely implementation and execution of payroll control groups in new jurisdictions

What We Are Looking For:

  • Ten years related experience and/or training; in-depth knowledge of payroll administration processes, procedures and best practices
  • Bachelor’s degree required, with concentration in Accounting, Finance or Business preferred
  • Experience with ADP WorkForce Now payroll required
  • Familiarity with multi-state, multi-entity payroll, and Wage and Hour Laws required
  • Demonstrated ability to set up and implement payroll platforms and processes
  • International payroll processing experience preferred
  • Fundamental Payroll Certification
  • Strong data entry skills and meticulous attention to detail
  • Strong organizational skills; work independently while being a valuable member of a small team
  • Willingness to embrace change and learn new skills, tools and technology
  • Flexibility with assignments, and quick learner
  • Self-starter, positive and cooperative attitude, zero ego, and ability to problem-solve under minimal supervision
  • Demonstrated ability to provide excellent customer service; exhibit tact, diplomacy, and professionalism
  • Ability to interact with senior management with confidence and credibility; can work cross functionally with executives and department heads to understand complex business needs and requirements
  • Ability to manage multiple simultaneous tasks within an open and interactive environment
  • Proven ability to work with multiple internal and external teams simultaneously in a dynamic, fast-paced environment
