Success: 

  • Manage and guarantee semi-monthly disbursement of multi-state payroll for 250+ employees, including garnishments and taxes consistent with federal and state wage and hour laws
  • Manage all payroll operations related to employee compensation (including bonuses) for exempt and non-exempt workers
  • Ensure all accounting transactions related to employee compensation are properly recorded in the general ledger
  • Ensure bonus and commissions programs are properly tracked
  • Assist with headcount planning and cost projections
  • Critically review and analyze current payroll and tax procedures in order to recommend and implement changes leading to best practice operations
  • Ensure all payroll information and records are maintained in accordance with statutory requirements

Good Execution - Do your best work 

  • Deliver out-of-cycle/ad hoc payments to employees and facilitate the production of manual checks or wire transfers to bank accounts as necessary
  • Manage the processing of unemployment, worker’s compensation and employee leave requests
  • Act as a point of contact with external vendor partners to resolve payroll issues and ensure timely resolution; hold vendor partners accountable for meeting SLAs
  • Resolve all payroll discrepancies, process semi-monthly adjustments and answer employee inquiries
  • Oversee the process for reviewing timesheets and entering semi-monthly payroll, including reconciling semi-monthly, quarterly and annual payroll reports as required
  • Manage annual preparation and delivery of Form W-2s and 1099s

Good Owner - Be the CEO of your role 

  • Ensure systems are updated to reflect our current employee base, including wages, sick and vacation time in line with current policies
  • Work with HR on a regular basis to assure complete coordination of pay, benefits, and deductions
  • Develop and document payroll procedures to ensure maximum efficiency
  • Assist in preparation of internal and external audits
  • Oversee compliance with statutory reporting and filing requirements
  • Manage preparation of relevant management reports including weekly, monthly, quarterly and year-end reports (gross payroll, hours worked, vacation accrual, tax deductions, etc.)
  • Monitor the accurate processing of staff appointments, transfers, promotions and terminations
  • Prepare and review payroll account reconciliations
  • Interpret new legislation impacting payroll

Desired experience:

  • Workday experience (required)
  • At least 3 years in a similar role
  • In-depth knowledge and experience of payroll calculation and processing
  • Familiarity with payroll software
  • Familiarity with the accounting side of payroll (e.g. journal entries, reconciliations, etc.)
  • Full knowledge of current Federal, State and local labor laws, tax requirements and payroll regulations
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Must be able to work under tight deadlines
  • Should be able to deal with difficult, sensitive and confidential issue
  • The applicant should have strong organizational, time management and prioritization abilities
  • Must have good knowledge of flexible spending plans, garnishments, employee stock purchase plans and stock options

Nice To Haves

  • Accounting degree
  • Certified Payroll Professional (CPP) designation
  • Experience migrating payroll from one system to another preferred
