Pricing and Estimating Manager at Block Renovation

Role and Responsibilities

We are looking for an experienced and motivated Pricing and Estimating Manager to join our team. In this exciting and dynamic role you will fulfill two key responsibilities. Firstly, you will act as the pricing and estimating subject matter expert to provide support to our Sales, Design and Construction teams as they work to quantify the cost of our projects, including special items, unforeseen site conditions, or additional design requirements. Secondly, you will work proactively with our Design, Sales and Product teams to maintain, develop, and evolve the pricing model and systems that Block uses to create accurate project proposals that reflect the customer’s scope of work.

In this role, the successful candidate will be able to switch seamlessly between supporting our Enterprise Functions as we evolve the project pricing infrastructure, to providing pricing and estimating support (primarily in a remote capacity) to multiple active projects across Block’s markets. The successful candidate will have deep construction and estimating experience in the residential construction project space (or a comparable and applicable industry), and demonstrable experience working collaboratively with project teams to successfully deliver projects on time, to budget.

Key day-to-day responsibilities include: 

• Review proposals developed by our Sales team to ensure that the scope of work accurately reflects the customer’s requirements and that the material quantities and pricing is correct
• Review and comment on work order pricing and project proposals from our Contractors 
• Support the Sales and design teams by providing real-time, comprehensive, and accurate construction project cost estimates (primarily in a virtual capacity) as part of the proposal development process
• Participate in sales calls with customers (as and when required), to provide indicative cost assessments that assist the customer with the decision making process. Be able to confidently and articulately explain the factors and considerations that drive project cost up and down 
• Assist with estimating the end-to-end cost of a project, and with pricing of special items 
• Review and comment on change orders and work extensions from Contractors
• Work with Block’s technology team to develop systems that improve the company’s ability to create accurate proposals in a timely manner and taking learnings from change orders and field conditions from active projects
• Utilize your industry knowledge to contribute to the development of training material

Qualifications

• 5+ years experience as a Construction Pricing Estimator (or in a similar relevant role)
• Knowledge of building construction, materials, systems, market conditions and trade practices
• Deep understanding of construction rates, feasibility and impact on project timelines 
• Previous experience estimating project cost in the home renovation industry (or a comparable and applicable industry)
• Ability to work with limited information virtually and quickly develop an understanding of the requirements and estimates associated
• Strong interpersonal skills with an ability to create and maintain positive working relationships
• Strong verbal and written communication skills
• Degree (or equivalent experience) in Construction Management, Building Science, or a similar field is preferred
• Proficient with: Google Workspace and comfortable using databases
• Experience working in the construction industry is required
• Experience working with vendors & suppliers who serve the home renovation industry is a plus
