Senior  Accountant

The Role 

We are seeking an experienced, detail-oriented Senior Accountant to join Electric. You will be the critical first piece of layering our Finance department with an opportunity to grow into a Sr. Leadership role down the line. In this position, you will handle all accounting operations within the company, and verify financial records and transactions. You must have keen attention to detail and maintain account balances, financial statements, general ledger, and all reports.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as subject matter expert for Zuora and build and implement internal controls ensuring GAAP compliance and accuracy of reporting by providing monthly revenue reports
  • Manage the Accounts Receivable function providing end to end solutions and enhancing collection procedures to increase collections over time and provide automation
  • Perform month-end close activities, including preparation & review of journal entries and reconciliations for various balance sheet and income statement accounts
  • Ensure accurate and timely completion of the month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close
  • Assist in the efforts for the preparation, review and approval of the organization’s financial statements, including financial statement analysis and documentation of meaningful explanations or fluctuations
  • Help develop dashboards to track business performance, identify cost savings for the business, and act as a strategic partner to functional leaders
  • Support compliance related items such as income tax, franchise tax and assist our external tax team as needed to ensure accurate and timely preparation of annual filings
  • Evaluate legacy systems and implement new systems to automate transaction processing and routine tasks
  • Provide support for equity related transactions and activities as needed
  • Participate in streamlining and process improvement projects to increase efficiencies and enhance the internal controls over accounting processes and systems
  • Work cross functionally on strategic company projects/initiatives and apply critical thinking skills to provide solutions that drive company performance
  • Research new GAAP standards and implement/ensure we have appropriate internal controls in place
  • Create accounting technical memorandum where needed and assigned
  • Develop and document business processes and accounting policies to maintain and strengthen internal controls
  • Serve as a trusted resource to the Staff Accountant and other members of the team
  • Support leadership in completing special projects, ad-hoc reporting and analysis requests, and other tasks as assigned

Qualifications

  • 3-5 years of experience in an accounting role with a preference for 2 years of public accounting experience
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance
  • Independent self starter able to work independently and with a team
  • CPA / candidates on CPA track strongly preferred
  • Tech industry or startup experience preferred but not required
  • Strong proficiency in Microsoft Excel
  • Proficiency with accounting software and experience with ERP implementations a plus
  • Exceptional knowledge of finance, accounting, budgeting, cost accounting and cost control principles, and Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP)
