About the job

Spruce is looking for an experienced Staff Accountant to join our Finance team in NYC, reporting to the Senior Accounting Manager. An ideal candidate will have an interest in real estate and will thrive in a fast-paced environment. 

This role will play a key part in providing support to the Finance team in GL reconciliations, month-end close, process improvements and other critical accounting functions. You will play a meaningful role in developing scalable processes and contribute to Spruce's long-term growth.

What you'll do

• Reconcile and accurately balance escrow accounts in a timely manner
• Process escrow transactions; deposits, withdrawals and bank wires
• Assist in month-end close process and other assigned department related tasks
• Reconcile designated general ledger accounts and perform analytical reviews of monthly activity
• Reconcile all credit card purchases to monthly statements
• Book monthly journal entries and prepare related account reconciliations
• Perform daily bank account activity reconciliations
• Responsible for monthly bank reconciliations along with three-way reconciliations
• Vendor invoice entry and accounts payable aging analysis 
• Drive process improvement and contribute to exciting projects that achieve scalability and efficiency, system design, and core accounting framework and management reporting
• Partake in ad hoc accounting or finance projects and analysis, as assigned

What we're looking for

• Bachelor’s or higher degree in Accounting
• Active CPA or CPA eligible highly preferred
• Experience in Title and Escrow
• 1-2 year(s) of relevant Accounting experience; Big Four experience highly preferred
• Excellent communication skills; proven ability to communicate effectively with internal and external business partners at various level
• Proactive self-starter who enjoys a fast-paced environment and an ability to prioritize, multi-task and meet pressing deadlines
• Strong computer skills including Microsoft Office and Google Office Suite
• Exceptional attention to detail and strong organizational skills
• Experience with NetSuite or other cloud-based Accounting platform, or willingness and ability to learn

Compensation

• The anticipated annual compensation range for this position is $80,000 - $95,000. Stock options are typically a part of the total compensation package determined on a role-by-role basis. Your actual compensation may vary depending on your relevant skills and experience.
